No changes. He asked for public comment regarding the agenda. No public comment. \nPresident Barnickel called for motion to approve agenda. \nMotion / Second / All in Favor \nMotion passed. Agenda set. \nAbsent: Boatman \nPRESENTATIONS \nCommission Swearing-in Ceremony: President Barnickel welcomed special guest San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto. Sheriff Miyamoto led commissioners in an Oath of Office pledge and presented each commissioner with a certificate of honor from the Sheriff’s Office. \nCOMMUNICATIONS \nCVSO Report: \n• CVSO interim director Maurice Delmer presented the CVSO report for December 2024. [Report is posted to VAC website.] Following the presentation, there was a brief Q&A session with commissioners that included the following comments: \no Commissioner Baba asked if CVSO helps with Nexus letters. He’s heard of people having to pay for letters which does not sound right. Mr. Delmer responded that CVSO does not provide Nexus letters directly because CVSO is not a medical provider. Letters should come from a medical professional provider. Veterans should be on alert for claim scams that charge for letters. \no Commissioner Rusanoff requested the CVSO report be expanded to include number of year-to-date appointments and provide comparison to last year’s numbers. Mr. Delmer replied instead of modifying the monthly report he will send separate fiscal year reports. He will email these reports to the commission secretary. Secondly, Commissioner Rusanoff asked about effect of the citywide hiring freeze on CVSO. Mr. Delmer replied during hiring freeze CVSO will not be getting additional FTEs. Currently CVSO does not have any work studies and will be recruiting this month. \no President Barnickel asked if report numbers include walk-in and scheduled appointments at the hospital. Mr. Delmer responded that hospital walk-ins are included in the report. The hospital does not have scheduled appointments. President Barnickel suggested it may be helpful to separately track hospital appointment numbers. He noted he is there every Wednesday and it is extremely busy – veterans often have hours-long wait to see claims rep. Mr. Delmer clarified the walk-in data point is a combination of walk-ins at 2 Gough and the out-station at \nhospital. He said generally there are 30 to 35 walk-ins for Wednesday out-station. \no Commissioner Chan asked for SF CVSO data to compare with other counties and dollar amount San Francisco receives from the state for CVSO funding. Mr. Delmer said the state allocation amount is called local assistance funding and is based on number of audible claims filed. He said the percentage of allocation is CalVet’s decision. Mr. Delmer offered to follow up by sending the 2023 annual report followed by the 2024 report, which will be released in February. To assist with recruiting for work study program, Commissioner Chan will connect CVSO with Alan Wong of the SF College Board. \nSecretary Report: \n• Reminded commissioners about the process to add items to future meeting agendas. Secretary will email a “Call for Agenda Items,” please follow instructions in email to submit agenda item request. \nVice-President Report: \n• Thanked everyone who attended Michael Begert’s last day as presiding judge with the Veterans Justice Court. Further, he encouraged commissioners to participate in meetings by sending agenda items","cbCaikWiMHC9A2MM","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikWiMHC9A2MM","pdf",201081,"English","# Call to Order and Welcome\n# Roll Call\n# Pledge of Allegiance\n# Set Agenda\n# Presentations\n# Communications\n## CVSO Report\n## Secretary Report\n## Vice-President Report\n## President Report\n# Approval of Meeting Minutes\n# New Business","[{\"question\":\"What time was the meeting called to order and was quorum present?\",\"answer\":\"The meeting was called to order at 6:04 PM, and quorum was present.\"},{\"question\":\"What did the CVSO report include and how were Nexus letters addressed?\",\"answer\":\"The CVSO interim director presented the December 2024 report, and clarified that CVSO does not provide Nexus letters because it is not a medical provider, advising veterans about claim scams charging for letters.\"},{\"question\":\"How were the agenda and the December 10, 2024 meeting minutes approved?\",\"answer\":\"The agenda had no changes and was approved by motion.
