Other information \nGuidance to the template for project description \nThe Norwegian Taxonomy Initiative (NTI)– project proposals to strengthen knowledge of poorly known species groups in Norway \nAll elements should be addressed and written following the same order as the template. The project description is limited to 10 pages. References is not included in the page limitation. The page format should be A4 with min. 2 cm margins, 11 pt font size and single-spaced. For the references and figure texts, 9 pt font size can be used. Web pages or documents which are being linked to, will not be taken into consideration. \nIn the online application form you should provide information about the applicant(s), project period, and whether you have received grant(s) from the NTI previously and any results from previous projects. \n1. TITLE \nFormulate a short and descriptive title for the project. \n2. RELEVANCE TO THE CALL \nThe purpose of the call is to strengthen knowledge about poorly known species groups, by identifying which species exist in Norway. Furthermore, the call aims to strengthen competence building and recruitment within the field of biosystematicsand promote DNA barcoding of Norwegian species. \nGive a short explanation of the relevance of the proposed project, with regards to the academic criteria in the call as well as the goals of the NTI. \n3. SCIENTIFIC PART \nThe application should have a good scientific approach with defined clear goals in accordance with the progress plan of the project. \na) Abstract (Norwegian and English) \nProvide a popular science abstract that briefly summarise the most important aspects of the project, its purpose, species groups to be studied, geographic areas and ecosystem types/habitats to be surveyed, as well as the most central challenges. \nBe aware that the abstract may be published on the NBIC webpages if the project is granted funding. Therefore, the text must be suited for publication and be understood both by the general public and scientists. \nb) Goals \nFormulate a specific and verifiable main goal, and verifiable subgoals (point by point) for the project. The subgoals should be specific and delimited in accordance with the project progress plan. \nc) Background and state of knowledge \nDescribe the project background, and which taxa/species group(s) that will be mapped. Describe the taxonomic knowledge status of the species group(s) and how the project will contribute to strengthening the knowledge of this/these group(s) of species. See « Kunnskapsstatus for artsmangfoldet i Norge 2020» (only available in Norwegian) . \nd) Methods \nDescribe methods and activities that will be used to do species inventories in the project. \ne) Geographic areas and ecosystem types \nDescribe in which geographical areas and in which ecosystem types/habitats the inventory will take place. Address also how the project will contribute to strengthen knowledge of the species' ecological affiliation and species-habitat affiliations. \nf) Competence \nDescribe how the project will contribute to strengthen competence, enhance recruitment, and transfer of knowledge of taxonomy and biosystematics within Norwegian scientific communities. \n4.
