This template has been designed to assist with the development of Patient/Public Engagement plans for health research but can be used to plan other projects. Begin with box \\#1 and work through to box \\#10 to address the components of the engagement planning process. Select all that apply and discuss the template with your research team (including your patient/public partners!) . \n(1) WHY1 \nWhy do you want to involve people with lived/living experience? \n􀂆 Gathering ideas for new research areas based on the needs of people with lived/living experience of the area you are studying \n􀂆 Ensuring research is focused on the interestsand concerns of people with lived/living experience of the condition and/or system being studied, and that money and resources are used efficiently \n􀂆 Ensuring transparency and accountability \n􀂆 Ensuring that the methods are acceptable and sensitive to the situations of potential research participants \n􀂆 Making the language and content of information more appropriate and accessible \n􀂆 Increasing participation in research \n􀂆 Collecting data with and for patients/members of the public \n􀂆 Taking diverse perspectives into account when analyzing data \n􀂆 Taking diverse perspectives into account when making decisions \n􀂆 Increasing the dissemination and uptake of research findings in practice or policy \n􀂆 Meeting the requirements of funders \n􀂆 \nConsider: If there is a useful role for patient/public partners. Are there options to choose from or are decisions already made? \n(2) WHO1 \nWho do you need to involve? \n􀂆 In-patients \n􀂆 Out-patients \n􀂆 Former patients \n􀂆 Caregivers \n􀂆 Family \n􀂆 Public \n􀂆 Patient support group \n􀂆 Patient organization \n􀂆 Community group \n􀂆 People who have experience with a specific condition, service or treatment \n􀂆 \n______________________________________ \nConsider: The broad and different views and experiences you will need. Engage people as“independent citizens” not as “experts” or representatives of specific stakeholder groups. \nTip: Involve more than one person. This allows you to involve different people at different stages of the research process, and allows people to choose how they want to be involved. \n(3) WHEN1 \nWhen and how can patients be involved? \nResearch Process: \n􀂆 Identifying and Prioritizing \nPatients’ experiences of a condition can help generate new ideas or clarify questions that you may have about new studies. \n􀂆 Design \nPatients can inform the design of data collection tools, for example piloting a questionnaire. Patients can help develop communication materials that are clear to patients and the public. \n􀂆 Grant Writing \nPatients can help support proposals and collaborate on grant applications. \n􀂆 Data Collection and Analysis \nPatients can use their lived experience to help to collect data from peers and/or highlight information that is important to them in the data analysis process. \n􀂆 Dissemination \nPatients can advise on who to share research findings with and the different ways to communicate with them. \n􀂆 Implementation and Evaluation \nPatients can help develop, implement, and evaluate interventions, and can advise on ways to ensure that implementation is successful. \nTip: You can involve patients in different stages of the research cycle. It is most effective to involve patients as early as possible; however, it is never too late. \nTip: Having user input before the ethics application shows you have considered patient concerns. \n(4) WHAT IS YOUR GOAL? \nLevels of engagement2, 3 \n􀂆 Inform \nTo provide patients/members of the public with balanced and objective information to assist them in understanding the research. \n􀂆 Consult \nTo obtain patient/public feedback on the research. \nInvolve \nTo work directly with \npatien","cbCaiovn1M5pLWMS","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiovn1M5pLWMS","pdf",732143,9,"English","# Patient and Public Engagement Planning Template - 2023\n## Instructions\n## (1) WHY\n## (2) WHO\n## (3) WHEN\n## Research Process\n## (4) WHAT IS YOUR GOAL?\n## Levels of engagement\n## (5) HOW\n## (6) WHERE","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this planning template?\",\"answer\":\"It helps teams develop patient/public engagement plans for health research by guiding them through the engagement planning components, from rationale and participant selection to engagement levels and practical steps.\"},{\"question\":\"How can patients be involved during the research process?\",\"answer\":\"Patients can contribute at multiple stages such as identifying and prioritizing, designing data collection tools, supporting grant writing, contributing to data collection and analysis, advising on dissemination, and assisting with implementation and evaluation.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the levels of patient and public engagement covered in the template?\",\"answer\":\"The template describes levels ranging from Inform and Consult to Involve, Collaborate, and Empower, with examples of engagement activities for each level.\"}]","Patient and Public Engagement Planning Template - 2023 | PDF",1789244050]
