The instructions given below assume some knowledge of these surveys.
General
Your CSO reference number at the top of the Register sheet must be populated. This reference number will be sent in the email issue and any subsequent reminders.
The same currency and units must be used for all parts of the form.
Drop-down lists are set up for classifications and countries. Please do not type in these cells.
Where detailed country or counterparty breakdown is not available, please use your best estimate, using the drop-down lists provided.
The form contains formulas for certain cells (e.g. totals). Please do not edit these cells. In the P&L the locked cells are shaded, input cells are white.
For balance sheet items there is a “check” column. An X here it means that the line does not add correctly (i.e. “Opening Value” + “Increases” + “Valuation Changes” is not equal to “Closing Value”).
There is a Balance Sheet Summary at the end of the form, which is calculated from the Balance Sheet items. Please check this before submitting the forms and address any errors identified. Column F should not contain an “X”, and cells B16 and E16 should be less than 10.
An understanding of the types of data checks performed by the LCU may help reduce the number of queries received each quarter – data processing and analysis checks are included in \u0013 HYPERLINK \\l "_Appendix_3_–" \u0014Appendix 3\u0015.
Providing additional information relevant to the quarter in the Comment Box on the Register or P&L tabs may also reduce the number of queries.
Purchase of Services / Sale of Services
Services should be broken down into purchases and sales and listed by type of activity, counterparty, and country of the counterparty. See \u0013 HYPERLINK \\l "_Appendix_1_–" \u0014Appendix 1\u0015 for the list of service categories.
A full breakdown of Irish services is required – this reduces the level of detail requested on annual surveys.
Merchanting of Goods and Merchanting of Services must be reported on a gross basis i.e. both the value and country breakdown should be reported for purchases and sales. See \u0013 HYPERLINK \\l "_Appendix_5_–" \u0014Appendix 5\u0015 for a definition of merchanting.
Service purchase and sale totals are carried forward to the P&L sheet and are used in the calculation of the profit of the Irish unit. Please do not edit these totals (cell C1) or the corresponding sale of services / cost of services calculated formula fields on the P&L tab.
Inter-company cross charges for items such as R&D, royalties, commissions etc. should be reported as services purchases or sales.\u000f
Profit and Loss (P&L)
Section A: Profit & loss data of the Irish Unit
Section A captures details of all Profit and Loss items of the Irish part of your company or group. It therefore excludes trading details relating to your foreign subsidiaries or branches, if any. If you have foreign subsidiaries, you will need to exclude their results, possibly using your consolidation schedules.
The total income from the 'sale of goods' should be entered in cell C3, while the income from the 'sale of goods' specifically to Irish resident purchasers should be entered in cell D4. Similarly, the total ‘materials costs' should be entered in cell C10, while the materials costs' paid to Irish resident suppliers should be entered in cell D11.
Price / profit adjustments are very significant for some organisations. These can be positive or negative and should be reported in Cell C5 of the P&L. “Total Income” is a locked formula which takes the adjustments into account.
‘Other income’ (Cell C8) should not include dividend income from subsidiaries - these should be included under ‘Other’ (Section B, Cell C29). Dividend Income from subsidiaries should be reported in Section B, Cell D30. If ‘other income’ exceeds €/$10m, please provide a breakdown to allow us to re-classify if required.
‘Other cost","cbCaihsByVQp7zPB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihsByVQp7zPB","docx",139788,6,"English","# General
## Data entry rules and validation
## Balance Sheet Summary checks
# Purchase of Services / Sale of Services
## Service breakdown and categories
## Merchanting reporting on a gross basis
# Profit and Loss (P&L)
## Section A: Irish unit profit & loss
## Section B: Consolidated profit & loss","[{"question":"What must be completed first in the register sheet for the 2025 LCU_Q return?","answer":"Populate the CSO reference number at the top of the Register sheet, since it will be used in the email issue and subsequent reminders."},{"question":"What do the X values in the balance sheet “check” column mean?","answer":"An X indicates the line does not add correctly, meaning the opening value plus increases plus valuation changes does not equal the closing value."},{"question":"How should consolidated profit in Section B be reconciled with Section A?","answer":"Section B, Cell C23 must be completed; if there are no foreign subsidiaries or branches, it should match Section A.
