Good business operations hinge on successfully delivered projects, and there’s a multitude of tools out there that will help you streamline your operations management process and save time. \nBut what do you do if your CEO expects you to bring them the world on a shoestring budget? Or if you’ re the type of person who feels like the “pound of flesh” expression may as well be literal? \nLuckily, good project management isn’t a product, but a set of principles. So while there are many excellent-but-prohibitivelyexpensive tools out there, if saving money is a key priority you can still achieve near-perfect results without spending a single penny. \n2 \nPLAN: Google sheets – the OG \nGoogle sheets was launched on the 9th of March in 2006, and we’ve never looked back. There may be more sophisticated tools out there, but“free and perfectly good enough” beats “expensive and perfect” any day. Especially when we all know that the tool doesn’t do the work for you, and a good plan is only half the story. \nAnd while that project plan may only get you so far, you won’t get anywhere at all without it. Google Sheets provides everything you need to get your project plan sorted. \nFar beyond just providing an empty spreadsheet, there are several templates waiting for you to fill in your project plan. A Gantt chart might not be the hottest new thing on the market, but its longevity tells you everything you need to know – it works. \nThe templates included in Google Sheets are free and easy to use, and include a Gantt chart, a project timeline and a project tracker template. \nEXECUTE: Trello or Asana? \nThe battle is on \nOnce you’ve planned your project to satisfaction, you need a tool that will allow you to assign tasks and keep track of completion. \nWhen googling “project management”your first result will be Monday – largely down to their aggressive PPC keyword campaigns. So ifyou don’t want to pay for their marketing budget, what’s the alternative? \nTrello and Asana seem locked in an eternal battle for dominance online, and which is better depends on who you ask. What you prefer seems to come down largely to preference rather than any particular features. \nForbes has a great breakdown of features, but it basically boils down to this – Trello is better if you need to move tasks through a set process, and Asana is better if you have a lot of subtasks to assign. However, both are powerful, easy-to-use project management tools. \nThere are paid versions of both, but the free version works well until you either have too many projects, or too many team members. Hopefully, by the time you get to that point you’ve hada sufficiently thorough trial to know if it’s worth paying for or not. \n4 \nCOMMUNICATE: Loom \nInstead of meetings that should have been an email. \nSartre famously said,“hell is other people,” and anyone who’s tried to manage a project may be inclined to agree. Using video software Loom, you can record your screen with a voiceover to streamline your communication and avoid misunderstandings. There are two main areas where a quick video update may be helpful: briefing, and ","cbCaiuBqgkK8S9nL","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiuBqgkK8S9nL","pdf",7366485,9,"English","# Executive Summary\n# PLAN: Google sheets – the OG\n# EXECUTE: Trello or Asana?\n# COMMUNICATE: Loom\n# PLAN, EXECUTE, COMMUNICATE\n# About Caxton","[{\"question\":\"Why do COOs need project management tools even with limited budgets?\",\"answer\":\"Business operations teams must increase process efficiency through successfully delivered projects.
