To create enthusiasm for Scholarship \n2. To stimulate a desire to render Service \n3. To promote leadership \n4. To develop character \n5. To encourage citizenship \nMembership in the National Honor Society is based upon performance in the following four areas: Scholarship \n􀁸 Character \n􀁸 Leadership \n􀁸 Service \nMembership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. Our chapter is working hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community. Our chapter, along with the more than 15,000 chapters in schools across the nation, strives to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. \nThese four ideals are the basis for selection. National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student – one who excels in all of these areas. By completing the attached Candidate Form, you will have an opportunity to outline your accomplishments in the areas of Service, Character, and Leadership. Your transcript will also be reviewed in order to determine your eligibility based on scholarship. Candidates eligible for election to the chapter shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 (out of 4 .0); weighted grade point average based on letter grades only in CP and A-G core classes meeting graduation requirements; based on the previous two semesters of high school enrollment only. \nMembership in the National Honor Society is optional and more than an honor. It incurs an obligation to demonstrate these outstanding qualities and it also carries a responsibility to the chapter. If our chapter is to become effective and meaningful, each member must become involved. Membership will include attendance at monthly meetings and participation in a chapter service project as well as an individual service project. The location of the meetings will be left up to member vote. A conference call option is also available. \nStudent submission will be reviewed, along with the transcript by the Springs Charter Schools faculty council and students determined to meet the requirements for eligibility will be notified. A special induction ceremony for students and parents will be held in the fall. \nThe Candidate Form is enclosed along with this letter. If you are interested in the opportunity to be selected for membership, please do the following by the end of June. No late forms will be accepted. \n􀁸 Complete Student Activity form and required essay \n􀁸 Request and submit a letter of recommendation from a non-family community or school staff person \n􀁸 Mail or deliver required documents to: \nSprings Chapter of the National Honor Society \n43466 Business Park Drive Temecula, CA 92590 \n􀁸 Request an official copy of your transcripts by contacting Terry Pflaumer, Springs Transcript Technician. \nE-mail: [terry.pflaumer@riverspringscharter.org](terry.pflaumer@riverspringscharter.org) ; phone: 951-252-8836 \nForms must be submitted by early summer to provide the Faculty Council sufficient time to authenticate the information provided by candidates and to seek clarification in preparation for the selection meeting. Without such time, it makes it difficult for the Faculty Council to render an appropriate professional judgment regarding your candidacy.
