EDT (1812 GMT), touching its lowest level since August 5. US gold futures for December delivery settled 1. 1% lower at $4,140 .70. \nThe US dollar index climbed 0.4%, making greenback-denominated gold more expensive for holders of other currencies, and 10-year US Treasury yields were at an over two-decade high. \nMarkets are largely expecting the US Federal Reserve to keep interest rates on hold later this month, but are still pricing in an 85% chance of a December increase, according to CME's FedWatch tool. \n\"I think the message is rates are going to continue to be higher for longer, and that's keeping yields and the dollar underpinned,\"said Peter Grant, vice president and senior metals strategist at Zaner Metals. \nKansas City Fed President Jeff Schmid said curbing inflation may require further rate hikes. San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly also said the policy path would depend on whether inflationary pressures continue. \nHigher interest rates diminish the attractiveness of non-yielding gold. \nFed policymakers were divided last month over the rationale for raising interest rates, with \"some participants\" seeing a hike as needed to keep the impact of energy and other price shocks at bay, but a more hawkish core viewing it as necessary to guard against emerging demand-driven inflation. \nMeanwhile, China's central bank stepped up its gold purchases in September, extending its buying streak to a 23rd consecutive month, official data showed. \n\"Official gold demand is the main supporting factor. I think we could see one more test to the downside, perhaps as low as $4,000, and then a recovery into year-end with potential to reach $4,400,\" Grant added. \nSpot silver eased 3% to $59.86 per ounce, platinum fell 3.9% to $1,635 .04, and palladium lost 4% to $1,125 .70. \nCopper prices recovered on Wednesday as supply worries, driven by a walk-out by Chile mine workers, offset pressure from a stronger dollar. \n(Source: Reuters) \nContract Close Chg High Low \nGOLD DEC 26 SILVER DEC 26 COPPER DEC 26 PLATINUM JAN 27 Gold Spot EuroDollar Rate Dollar Index \nBursa Gold OCT 26 SPDR Gold ETFiShares Gold ETF \n4,140.70 \n60.294 \n664.95 1,649.80 4,111 .180 \n0.000 \n102.287 4,131 .100 375.880 \n77.060 \n-53.500 \n-1.599 -1.65 -68.70 -53.00 0.000 0.454 -36.40 -6.390 \n-1.310 \n4,197.80 \n61.845 \n668.10 1,722.40 4,170.00 \n0.000 \n102.499 4179.4 \n378.25 \n77.53 \n4,091 .20 \n59.230 \n659.90 1,616.00 4,066.59 \n0.000 \n101.903 4138.7 \n374.23 \n76.73 \nCOT Speculative Net Position \nDate Gold Silver Copper \n02/10/2026 \n22/09/2026 15/09/2026 08/09/2026 \n01/09/2026 25/08/2026 \n18/08/2026 \n11/08/2026 04/08/2026 \n28/07/2026 \n21/07/2026 \n218,632 225,853 230,338 231,960 228,124 243,334 222,189 217,940 197,634 182,070 \n183,910 \n22,083 25,444 25,326 26,049 26,739 25,261 23,625 23,646 22,280 22,217 \n23,465 \n85,411 90,522 75,134 92,476 80,869 85,266 79,748 80,388 77,123 67,281 \n73,977 \nGlobal Gold Demand From Central Bank Net Purchases \nDate Tonnes \n30/06/2026 \n31/03/2026 \n31/12/2025 \n30/09/2025 \n30/06/2025 \n31/03/2025 \n31/12/2024 \n30/09/2024 \n30/06/2024 \n31/03/2024 \n31/12/2023 \n288.86 56.52 208.19 226.25 177.85 235.87 365.09 196.39 211.52 313.30 \n216.79 \nGlobal Gold Mines Output \nDate Kgs \n30/6/2026 31/03/2026 \n31/12/2025 \n30/09/2025 \n30/06/2025 \n31/03/2025 \n31/12/2024 \n30/09/2024 \n30/06/2024 \n31/03/2024 \n31/12/2023 \n966 \n901 \n987 1,028 948 \n860 \n971 \n987 \n928 \n864 \n971 \nGold Jewellery Consumption \n Date India (Kgs) China (Kgs) \n30/6/2026 \n31/3/2026 \n31/12/2025 30/9/2025 \n30/6/2025 \n31/3/2025 \n31/12/2024 30/9/2024 \n30/6/2024 \n31/3/2024 \n31/12/2023 \n75.10 66.13 145.35 125.00 88","cbCaiic9IelRaMcu","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiic9IelRaMcu","pdf",688908,"English","# Metal Daily Preview\n## Price moves and macro drivers\n## Fed outlook and market expectations\n## Gold demand and China purchases\n## Cross-commodity performance (silver, platinum, palladium, copper)\n## Technical analysis levels (Gold, Silver, Copper, Platinum)\n## Disclaimer and contact","[{\"question\":\"Why did gold prices fall on October 8, 2026?\",\"answer\":\"Gold declined as the US dollar strengthened and US Treasury yields rose, lowering the appeal of non-yielding bullion.
