 \nNUMBER:  \nSECTION: CONSENT AGENDA  \nREQUESTED MOTION  \nTo award the quote to install landscaping in the Shoreview Commons destination playground to Great Northern Landscapes, Inc. in the amount of $28,540.  \nINTRODUCTION  \nThe city council is being asked to approve a quote to install landscaping in the Shoreview Commons destination playground.  \nDISCUSSION  \nAs the Shoreview Commons destination playground has gotten more use, staff have identified issues with the landscaping that is causing erosion and damage to the planting from excessive foot traffic.  \nOn the steep bank by the hillside slide feature, rainfall and foot traffic from youth playing is causing the mulch and soil to erode. The addition of boulders and larger plantings will better support the landscaping and reduce erosion by deterring patrons from walking and playing in this area.  \nAt multiple other areas throughout the playground, playground users are walking through and playing in planting areas. The installation of boulders and larger planting materials will deter activity in these areas. In addition, the boulders will provide additional seating for playground users.  \nThe city recently solicited quotes for this work as noted below:  \n Great Northern Landscape, Inc. $28,540.00  \n Winsor Companies $32,541.74  \nGreat Northern Landscape, Inc. submitted the lowest quote for the project. Staff has worked with Great Northern Landscape, Inc. in the past, and they have consistently provided quality  \nwork. In addition, Great Northern Landscape, Inc. installed the current landscaping work atthe destination playground and are very experienced with the unique needs of the site. Staff recommends that the council approve their quote for this project. $48,000 has been budged for landscape work at the Shoreview Commons and the Highway 96 and Lexington Avenue North medians.
