It is intended to:\nSupport ULM’s communication and branding goals\nEncourage effectiveness, professionalism, and accessibility in online communication\nEnsure compliance with university policies and privacy standards\nProvide procedures for account creation, branding, content, moderation, and accessibility.\nEstablish oversight and enforcement by OMC.\nEnsure proper security, consistent brand management, and seamless administrative transitions when personnel changes occur.\nIII.\tApplicability\nThis policy applies to all ULM faculty, staff, student employees, and university affiliates who manage or contribute content to official ULM social media accounts or represent the university on social media platforms in an official capacity.\nIV.\tDefinitions\nOfficial ULM Social Media Account: Any account created to represent a ULM department, office, program, or initiative using the ULM name, logo, or branding.\nOMC: Office of Marketing and Communications, the central authority for brand standards and social media governance.\nAdministrator: A ULM employee responsible for managing a social media account, including content posting and user interaction.\nV.\tPolicy Procedure\nA. Account Creation & Oversight\nAccounts must be approved by OMC via official application, which can be requested through the OMC’s Digital Content Specialist.\nSubmit an application before launching any new account or continuing with an existing one.\nInitial approval from your school, college, or department director is required.\nMust use a ULM departmental email address when creating social media accounts. Personal email addresses may not be used. The only exception is Facebook and LinkedIn, which require a personal account to serve as an administrator for departmental pages.\nAll credentials must be shared with OMC; OMC must retain administrative access.\nAccounts must have two full-time employees as administrators (primary and backup).\nNotify OMC of administrator changes immediately.\nB. Account Administrator Requirements\nAttend OMC social media training sessions.\nEnable multi-factor authentication where available.\nC. Content Guidelines\nFollow ULM’s tone: clear, respectful, positive, and professional.\nAvoid disclosing private student/employee information. Follow FERPA and other privacy laws.\nRefrain from political endorsements, product advertising, or unauthorized use of copyrighted material.\nPost fresh content 3–4 times a week (max 2 posts/day), using high-quality visuals and approved graphics/logos.\nMedia content that is not created by ULM personnel must be licensed or used only with permission from the owner.
