more experience, knowledge, and connections is able to pass along what they have learned to a more junior individual within a certain field”(Oshinkale, 2019). \nWhat constitutes of a successful mentoring relationship are these three key ingredients: \n1. A reciprocal relationship \n2. One person with more experience (in something) \n3. Using the relationship as a vehicle to encourage and inspire growth For more information, check out Oshinkale’s article here. \nDo you have any reflections on the information shared in the article? \nTHE ROLE OF A MENTOR. \nThe role of the mentor in mentoring relationship is to support “the growth and development of the mentee”and through this process the “mentor becomes a source of wisdom, teaching, and support”(Reh, 2019). The role of the mentor is to not observe and advise on “specific actions or behavioural changes”(Reh, 2019). \nIf you are interested in exploring the role of a mentor further, check out Reh’s full guide here. \nDo you have any reflections on the information shared in the article? \nTHE ROLE OF A PEER MENTOR. \nIn relation to peer mentoring and higher education, the type of mentorship many of you may be participating in, the mentor often consists of a student who has “successfully negotiated particular stages”within their educational journey, such as the transition to first year at university (Adolphus, 2021). \nIt is important to remember that peer mentors are not counsellors, nor do they replace the traditional university student support services, with whom they work closely. Their role varies from institution to institution, but commonly includes the following elements: \n• Orientation, familiarization and advice-giving about the university and aspects of university life, particularly, but not uniquely, to first-years, for example: showing them round the university and the local area, pointing out resources \nsuch as the accommodation office, where to get help on \nfinancial matters, Student Welfare, the library; explaining \nthe basics of university procedures, and other aspects of \nuniversity culture; telling them how to register for classes. \n• Referring them as necessary for consultation with theresources mentioned above,","cbCaitAo4uanBQa6","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitAo4uanBQa6","pdf",617683,"English","# Defining Roles\n## Defining Mentorship\n## The role of the mentor\n## The role of the peer mentor\n## The role of the mentee\n# Reciprocity & Expectations\n## Reciprocity\n## Expectations\n## Negotiating a partnership\n# Goal Setting & Ending a Mentorship\n## Goal Setting\n## Check-Ups\n## Ending a Mentoring Relationship\n## Safe exit procedure\n# Resources","[{\"question\":\"What are the core ingredients of a successful mentoring relationship?\",\"answer\":\"A successful mentoring relationship relies on reciprocity, includes one person with more experience, and uses the relationship as a vehicle to encourage and inspire growth.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the mentor’s role in the relationship?\",\"answer\":\"The mentor supports the mentee’s growth and development and acts as a source of wisdom, teaching, and support, rather than prescribing specific actions or behavioral changes.\"},{\"question\":\"How should a mentoring relationship be ended safely?\",\"answer\":\"The handbook describes an intentional ending process through a safe exit procedure, along with check-ups and structured goal setting before the relationship concludes.\"}]","Maximizing Mentorship - The Mentee Handbook 2021-2022 | PDF",7]
