The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact principal Jill Hardway at 517-279-5960 for assistance. \nThe AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site, or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school. For the 2022-23 school year, schools were identified based on previous years’ performance using definitions and labels as required in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) . A Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) school is one that had at least one underperforming student group in 2024-25. An Additional Targeted Support (ATS) school is one that had at least one student group performing atthe same level as the lowest 5% of all schools in the state in 2021-22. A Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school is one whose performance was in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state, had a graduation rate at or below 67%, failed to exit CSI status in 2024-25, or failed to exit ATS status in 2021-22. Some schools are not identified with any of these labels. In these cases, no status label is given. Our school has not been given one of these labels. \nState law requires that we also report additional information. \nProcess for Assigning Pupils to the School \nDuring the 2013-2014 school year, Coldwater Community Schools reconfigured two elementary buildings within the district. Since then, Max Larsen Elementary has served all of the district's Young 5s through 1st grade students. During the 2025-26 school year, Max Larsen currently serves 509 students Max Larsen does not directly receive scores from M-STEP or other uniform state assessments. However, the school does determine needs based on assessments from NWEA, Literacy Footprints, UFLI & locally developed assessments. \nSchool Improvement Plan \nThe School Improvement Plan for Max Larsen Elementary is updated annually and is available for review in the main office or on the district’[s website at](s website at www.coldwaterschools.org. We continue to) implement the Professional \nLearning Communities at Work framework to improve curriculum, instruction and assessment for all students through our core instruction, which includes small group reading instruction, intervention and enrichments. We utilize district developed units to assist in our Tier 1 instruction. As a building initiative, we continue to unpack \ncommon core standards and have identified Cardinal Standards, which continue to drive our curriculum units. We provide students with a solid core curriculum as well as both Tier II and Tier III interventions for students who need additional support. Larsen teachers continue to utilize Advantage Math Recovery strategies for students below grade level while implementing District developed math units within the math block. In science, we use the Phenomenal Science curriculum in Kindergarten and First Grade, utilizing the Next Generation Science Standards. We use district developed Social Studies units that integrate non-fiction text and content area vocabulary to enhance learning about history and the world around us. Additionally, we continue to seek ways to improve behavior and attendance by supporting students and families using attendance matters initiatives, Zones of Regulation, Community Circles, Restorative Practices, The Little Spot ","cbCaipHNVa409WwF","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipHNVa409WwF","pdf",207691,"English","# Annual Education Report (AER) overview\n## ESSA identification labels and school status\n## Additional state-required information\n# Pupil assignment process\n## Enrollment by grade and assessment sources\n# School improvement plan\n## Professional Learning Communities at Work and curriculum drivers\n## Tiered interventions and initiatives for behavior and attendance\n# Specialized schools and core curriculum alignment\n# Student achievement results on nationally normed tests\n## Pandemic impact on NWEA data\n# Parent-teacher conferences","[{\"question\":\"What is included in the Annual Education Report (AER) for Max Larsen Elementary?\",\"answer\":\"The AER presents key information on 2025-26 educational progress, including student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality required by federal and state laws.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the letter explain ESSA school identification labels like TSI, ATS, and CSI?\",\"answer\":\"It defines each label based on underperforming or lowest-performing student groups across specified years, and notes that schools not identified receive no status label.\"},{\"question\":\"What assessment sources does the school use if it does not receive scores from M-STEP or other uniform state assessments?\",\"answer\":\"The letter states the school determines needs using assessments from NWEA, Literacy Footprints, UFLI, and locally developed assessments.\"}]","Max Larsen Elementary - Annual Education Report (AER) Cover Letter - January 26, 2026 | PDF",1789301623]
