The cancers usually begin in the squamous cells that line the moist, mucosal surfaces inside the head and neck (e.g., inside the mouth, nose and throat) . There are more than 30 areas within the head and neck where cancer can develop. \nHead and neck cancer is the seventh most common type of cancer in Europe. It is approximately half as common as lung cancer, but twice as common as cervical cancer. \nDespite its severity and increasing prevalence within society, there is little awareness of head and neck cancer, and patient outcomes remain very poor; 60% of people with head and neck cancer present with locally advanced disease at diagnosis and 60% of people diagnosed at an advanced stage die from the disease within 5 years. However, for those patients diagnosed in the early stages of the disease, there is an 80–90% survival rate. \nRisk Factors \n Smoking Alcohol \n Human papilloma virus (HPV) \nPrevalence \n• Men are two to three times more likely to develop head and neck cancer than women, though the incidence of head and neck cancer in women is increasing. \n• The cancers are most common in people over \n40 years old. \n• The connection between HPV and head and neck cancers is increasing in a younger demographic. \nSigns and Symptoms \n• Sore tongue, non-healing mouth ulcers and/or red or white patches in the mouth \n• Pain in the throat \n• Persistent hoarseness \n• Pain and/or difficulty swallowing \n• Lump in the neck \n• Blocked nose on one side and/or bloody discharge from the nose \nMake Sense Campaign Toolkit \n• Celebrity Engagement \n• Early Diagnosis Day Clinics \n• Creating Partnerships \n• Young Person Education Day Healthcare Professional \nEducation Events \n• Engaging with Parliament \nSocial Media Posts \nThank You and Contact Us \nAbout Us and the \nMake Sense Campaign \nThe Make Sense campaign is a unique and exciting initiative by the European Head and Neck Society (EHNS), led by Prof. Wojciech Golusinski and Prof. C. René Leemans. The EHNS is a multidisciplinary body that brings medical experts together from many disciplines, including head and neck cancer specialists, oral and plastic surgeons, radiation therapists, medical oncologists, imaging specialists and pathologists. The society also brings together other stakeholders, including speech therapists, cancer nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, dieticians, social workers, basic scientists and patient organisations involved in any aspect of head and neck cancer. \nThe Make Sense Campaign aims to raise awareness of head and neck cancer and ultimately improve outcomes for patients with the disease. It will do this by: \n• Educating about disease prevention \n• Driving understanding of the signs and symptoms of the disease \n• Encouraging earlier presentation, diagnosis and referral Through the campaign, the EHNS hopes to promote the exchange of knowledge between head and neck cancer experts and the general public/other healthcare specialties. \nMake Sense Campaign Toolkit \n• Celebrity Engagement \n• Early Diagnosis Day Clinics \n• Creating Partnerships \n• Young Person Education Day","cbCaisX6tOyfpSOI","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisX6tOyfpSOI","pdf",7308048,6,22,"English","# Head and Neck Cancer Overview\n## Risk Factors\n## Prevalence\n## Signs and Symptoms\n# About Us and the Make Sense Campaign\n# How to Get Involved\n## Download Posters\n## Download Leaflets\n## Download Infographics\n## Making Meals\n## Make Sense Cookbook\n## FAQ Discussion Guide\n# Suggested Activities\n## Media Engagement\n## Celebrity Engagement\n## Early Diagnosis Day Clinics\n## Creating Partnerships\n## Young Person Education Day\n## Healthcare Professional Education Events\n## Engaging with Parliament\n# Social Media Posts\n# Thank You and Contact Us","[{\"question\":\"What is the Make Sense campaign, and who leads it?\",\"answer\":\"The Make Sense campaign is an initiative by the European Head and Neck Society (EHNS), led by Prof. Wojciech Golusinski and Prof. C.
