The template includes approved language in a word document for districts and schools to provide the message in a format that best suits the audience.\nDear Families,\nAs part of our ongoing efforts to support student success, I want to provide you with important updates about one of the assessments we use: NWEA’s MAP Growth.\nRecently, we transitioned to a new version of MAP Growth that places a greater emphasis on grade-level test items. MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive test, meaning the difficulty of questions adjusts based on your child’s responses. The updated version of MAP Growth aligns more closely with the material students are learning in class. This improvement allows educators to use the data more effectively when making instructional decisions and provides families with a clearer picture of how students are performing relative to grade-level expectations.\nIn partnership with NWEA, we have been closely monitoring the results from this new version of MAP Growth. Overall, the RIT scores—numerical scores used to measure academic progress—continue to be accurate and valid for all students across all subjects. Growth percentiles for reading, language arts, and science remain consistent with previous versions of the test.\nHowever, we have observed some differences in math. One key change we’ve noticed is that math scores under the new MAP Growth tend to be slightly lower in fall and higher in spring. This means that students have shown greater-than-expected growth within the school year compared to past trends. This also means students are showing larger score drops between spring and fall. This trend reflects the test's increased focus on grade-level content and is expected. While these drops may appear more significant, they are a normal part of the transition to a new version of the test and are unlikely to indicate a concerning decline in your child’s learning.\nNWEA has provided resources to help us interpret these shifts and ensure that decisions based on these data remain comparable to prior years. As NWEA prepares to release updated norms in 2025, these new benchmarks will fully incorporate the changes brought by this version of MAP Growth, ensuring that growth percentiles are aligned moving forward.\nProgram Placement Decisions\nSome families have inquired about the impact of these changes on program placements, such as gifted and talented programs or {insert other programs}. We want to reassure you that we will continue to evaluate student progress, needs, and readiness using multiple measures, including MAP Growth, to ensure fair and accurate placement decisions.\nIf you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the success of all our students.\nSincerely,\n\u000f","cbCaipA4230f5Yj1","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipA4230f5Yj1","docx",23995,"English","# Program Placement Decisions\n## Communication purpose and overview\n## Test format and score interpretation\n## Observed math score shifts\n## Implications for placements","[{\"question\":\"What changed in the new MAP Growth version?\",\"answer\":\"The updated MAP Growth places greater emphasis on grade-level test items.
