Recommended 4 or more years full time previous work experience in a Laboratory, ideally within an education environment.  \n2. Minimum Certificate Ill in Laboratory Skills essential.  \nSPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY INCLUDE:  \n• Assist teaching staff in planning and setting up practical activities.  \n• Set up, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment in alignment with lesson plans and student outcomes.  \n• Contact the manufacturer of chemicals for chemical data sheets for each chemical in stock.  \n• Where manufacturer-specific MSDS are unavailable, provide a generic alternative.  \n• Label workplace substances according to national codes, including signal words, risk statements, cautionary statements, and dangerous goods symbols as needed.  \n• Conduct risk assessments and monitor hazardous substances, including health risks to exposed persons.  \n• Maintain records on the use of hazardous substances.  \n• Label and store solutions not for immediate use, including household chemicals in plain containers.  \n• Maintain a chemical register and regularly check the condition of chemicals, storage areas, and labels.  \n• Dispose of chemicals with limited shelf life due to factors such as deliquescence, hygroscopic properties, sensitivity to light/heat, or oxidation states.  \n• Prepare test solutions and other chemical materials following specific formulations.  \n• Organize and distribute class sets of chemicals, apparatus, and other materials.  \n• Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and storage of laboratory equipment and glassware.  \n• Securely store hazardous chemicals in accordance with safety regulations.  \n• Maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped laboratory environment that complies with health and safety standards, legislation, and school policies.  \n• Support the Science department in creating engaging and inspiring lessons.  \n• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure functionality.  \n• Assist Science teachers with practical lessons and demonstrations.  \n• Provide technical support and guidance to Science teachers and students.  \n• Participate in the procurement and inventory management of laboratory resources.  \nGENERAL COMMENTS  \nNo job description can adequately describe all the tasks that might form part of a colleague’s duties.
