In order to ensure business continuity, it is imperative for organizations to prioritize Disaster Risk Management. \nWhat is Disaster Risk Management? \nDisaster risk management is the application of disaster risk reduction policies and strategies to prevent new disaster risk, reduce existing disaster risk and manage residual risk, contributing to the strengthening of resilience and reduction of disaster losses. (Def. UNDPR) \nDisaster Risk Management Best Practice \nThere are five (5) components of Disaster Risk Management that we will look at: \n❖ Risk Assessment \n✓ Risk Identification \n✓ Risk Analysis \n✓ Prioritization \n❖ Mitigation \n❖ Preparedness \n❖ Response \n❖ Recovery \nDISASTER \nRISK ASSESSMENT \n􀁘 In order to have a good disaster management plan, a proper disaster risk assessment of the organization must be done. \n􀁘 This provides the organization with the knowledge for proper investment in disaster risk reduction and improvement strategies that suits its needs. \n􀁘 Key aspect of risk assessment is having a risk assessment matrix in order to analyze potential consequences that can affect operations and the severity and likelihood of these impacts. \nRISK ASSESSMENT PROCESS \nIdentification of Critical Resource that can be affected \nThese are resources that impact the business operations and its ability to recover after a disaster. \nCritical resources include: \n- People, Physical (Equipment, infrastructure, inventory etc) \n-Financial , Intellectual (data etc) \nPotential Hazard Identification \nThese can be identified by analyzing the losses of past disasters \nThese include: \nEarthquake, Hurricane, Flooding Fire/Explosion, Civil Unrest, Pandemic, Oil Spill etc. \nRisk Analysis \nThree main things to consider when analyzing risk \na) Consequence to each critical resource \nb) Severity of the impact event \nc) Likelihood of occurrence \nPrioritizing and mitigation \nHaving identified effects on the critical resource the risk event then would be prioritized based on severity and likelihood. The mitigating actions would then be developed. These include: \n✓ Business Continuity Plan \n✓ Emergency Response Plan \n✓ Crisis Management Plan et \nEXAMPLE OF A RISK ANALYSIS TEMPLATE \nLIKELIHOOD \nEXAMPLE RISK PRIORITIZATION MATRIX \nSEVERITY \nDISASTER MANAGEMENT PHASES \nMITIGATION \nPrevent future emergency to the organization and reducing their effects \nRESPONSE \nProtecting people and property \nPREPAREDNESS \nTaking precautionary measures to be ready for the emergency \nRECOVERY \nRebuilding in order to return operations \nto normalcy \nKEY ELEMENTS OF A BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLAN (BCP) \n• The BCP should be reviewed regularly, and changes should be made as needed. \n• BCP should include a plan for maintaining access to critical systems in the event of an interruption \n• The BCP should include a list of backup locations and contact information for them. \n• BCP should include a communication plan that outlines who will be responsible for communicating with different groups of people. \n• Should be conducted regularly and should be adapted to reflect changes in the organization. \n• Members of the business recovery team should be trained in their roles and responsibilities \n• Responsible for implementing the business continuity plan. The team should be made up of key personnel from all departments of the organization. \n• Outlines the steps that is to be taken to keep the organization running in the event of an interruption. \n• Assess the risks that coul","cbCail9YUWrOIIeG","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCail9YUWrOIIeG","pdf",1997795,"English","# Introduction\n## What is a Disaster?\n## What is Disaster Risk Management?\n# Disaster Risk Management Best Practice\n## Five Components\n# Disaster Risk Assessment\n## Risk Assessment Process\n## Risk Analysis\n## Prioritization and Mitigation\n# Disaster Management Phases\n## Mitigation\n## Response\n## Preparedness\n## Recovery\n# Business Continuity Plan (BCP)\n## Key Elements\n## BCP Periodic Review\n# Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) Disaster Risk Management","[{\"question\":\"What is the definition of disaster risk management used in the presentation?\",\"answer\":\"Disaster risk management is the application of disaster risk reduction policies and strategies to prevent new disaster risk, reduce existing disaster risk, and manage residual risk, strengthening resilience and reducing disaster losses.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the five components of disaster risk management covered in the document?\",\"answer\":\"The five components are Risk Assessment, Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, with risk assessment including identification, analysis, and prioritization.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the presentation describe conducting a business continuity plan (BCP)?\",\"answer\":\"The BCP should be reviewed regularly and include maintaining access to critical systems, backup locations and contacts, and a communication plan for different groups.
