Keep Your Eye On The Prize…………………………………………………..18 \nA clear understanding of the job is required to do just about everything that we do in HR. From recruiting the right people and evaluating their performance, to benchmarking jobs and developing an equitable salary structure--all these tasks require reliable job information. However, if you’re like most of us, your job descriptions aren’t the reliable super-sources of information they have the potential to be. This eBook examines the job description itself and provides you with 10 ways in which you can improve their \noverall effectiveness. \n1 Change The Way You Define A Job Description \nLook up the definition of “job description” and you will be given something to the effect of “a formal account of an employee's responsibilities.” However, this definition is much too narrow for the job descriptions of today. Technology has allowed us to expand our perspective of what a job description is and amend its present and antiquated meaning. No longer is the job description limited to a static document only listing job summary, essential functions and qualifications; it now defines all aspects of a job by including other pertinent information such as compensation data, compliance classifications and documentation, performance data and more. \nIn the past, we’ve relied \nheavily on Word to help us \nmanage our job \ndescriptions. Although it is \nthe go-to application of \nchoice for many of us, it \nfails to accommodate the \nneed for collaboration \nduring the writing and \nreview process and offers \nlittle in the way of \ndynamic content storage. \nIt is also difficult to know who in the organization had the latest version or if the description of the job is even current. Because of this burden, job descriptions are often only reviewed periodically instead of being approached as a living, always evolving source. Though Word is a great tool (in fact, I used it to draft this very eBook), it was not designed to be a job description management solution. \nBy expanding the definition of “job description,” we open a whole new world of possibilities. The job description can become a reliable source of job information that helps formulate a sound foundation for other HR initiatives such as recruiting, performance, compliance, compensation and more. A clearly defined job description can help HR better evaluate potential and current employees and pinpoint the critical elements that differentiate between successful and unsuccessful job performance. It not only outlines the position and the duties and responsibilities of the job, but also what behaviors, values, and goals the company expects the employees to uphold. A job description can also assist in attracting the right talent, lead to accurate and actionable employee evaluations, support a pay-for-performance compensation plan, and corroborate your compliance efforts. \n2 Job Descriptions Are Not One Size Fits All \nThink of a job description as your perfect sandwich. What is considered perfect for one person may not be ideal for you. Maybe you despise the taste of bologna but think that a slice of asiago cheese completes the masterpiece. So, unless you find someone else’s idea of perfection sufficient, don’t rely on generic job descriptions. Although there is nothing wrong with pulling from multiple sources to help pull together a job description,","cbCair8LgKhpCY9B","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCair8LgKhpCY9B","pdf",1979660,19,"English","# Introduction\n# Change The Way You Define A Job Description\n# Job Descriptions Are Not One Size Fits All\n# Treat Job Descriptions As Evolving, Living Records\n# Describe The Job, Not The Person\n# How You Say It Matters\n# Content Is Crucial\n# But Collaboration Is Key\n# Stay Organized\n# Technology Is Your Friend\n# Keep Your Eye On The Prize","[{\"question\":\"Why are job descriptions considered essential for HR work?\",\"answer\":\"A clear understanding of the job is required for recruiting, performance evaluation, benchmarking, and building an equitable salary structure.
