Microsoft has developed the .NET framework while Sun has developed J2EE framework. Based upon case studies done by many large corporations, it is evident that neither technology has a significant edge over the other. Depending on the requirements of a corporation, one technology might be more suitable than the other. \nThe goal of this project is to develop the same intranet application using J2EE as well as .NET framework to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each technology. Some of the analysis criteria are ease of learning, interoperability and exception handling. All of the criteria will be discussed later in the development process. \nSummary of Progress Made: \nAnalysis Team: \n• Successfully developed a research document on short listed analysis criteria for the differences between two technologies. \n• Successfully developed a requirements specification document. \nWeb Site Team: \n• Web site is ready with the link, [http://www.iit.edu/](http://www.iit.edu/)~ipro337f03. \n• The web site is running with the security login and SSI directives. \n• Issue log is ready to use with the email system. \n• ‘Research articles’ posted with references collected from all team members. \n• ‘Evaluation criteria’ posted online. \n• Agenda of the meetings added to the list of menu items for the website. \nJ2EE Team: \n• Information of Struts examined. \n• J2EE architecture up and running. Tomcat and JBoss. \n• Articles reviewed on J2EE. \n• Learnt J2EE architecture and various components of J2EE. \n• Successfully developed the first JSP pages. \n• Successfully connected to MySQL server from sample code on the local host. \n• Common J2EE working environment agreed, with JBuilder as the preferred IDE. \nC\\#/.Net Team: \n• Working environment of .NET framework up and running. \n• Working environment of SQL server set up. \n• Database connectivity with SQL server database. \n• Learnt C\\# . \n• Established server connectivity from client computers. \nProject Plan Team: \n• Received a basic project plan template from the Bank One. \n• Developed the final project plan. \nProject Schedule: \nThe progress made till now on the project has been explained above. The progress we will make in the coming weeks is as below: \nBank One 10/16 Meeting deliver the following \n•Prototypes of interfaces \n•Requirement specification \n•Mid-term Progress Report \n•High-level Designs \nBank One 10/28 Meeting deliver the following \n•Test Specification \nBank One 11/25 Meeting deliver the following \n•Final Analysis Rpt \n•Completed Testing \n•Both Applications \n•IPRO Presentation \n•Abstract \n•Final Report \nObstacles encountered: \n• Time was consumed in setting up a network to connect the computers of all the members of .NET team. \n• The members of .NET team were unaware of the fact that SQL server is not supported by Windows XP and Windows 2000. So, time was consumed in installing and uninstalling the operating systems. \n• Time was spent by the J2EE team members to understand the J2EE architecture. \n• Time was spent on researching and deciding the evaluation criteria. \n• The computer to be set up as a server did not have enough RAM to handle Windows 2003 and SQL server, memory was eventually bought. \n• Difficulty was encountered to get a place for the server connected to internet 24/7 .","cbCaigbyw2kBGtKB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigbyw2kBGtKB","pdf",63357,"English","# Project Objectives\n# Summary of Progress Made\n## Analysis Team\n## Web Site Team\n## J2EE Team\n## C#/.NET Team\n## Project Plan Team\n# Project Schedule\n# Obstacles Encountered","[{\"question\":\"What is the main objective of the midterm project report?\",\"answer\":\"To develop the same intranet application using both J2EE and .NET and analyze their strengths and weaknesses based on shared evaluation criteria.\"},{\"question\":\"What evaluation criteria will be used for the technology comparison?\",\"answer\":\"Ease of learning, interoperability, and exception handling are identified as core criteria to be discussed during development.\"},{\"question\":\"What key obstacles were encountered during the project?\",\"answer\":\"Setup time was consumed for network connectivity, .NET team members faced SQL Server support issues with Windows XP/2000, J2EE required additional time to understand its architecture, and server resources and placement for 24/7 internet access caused delays.\"}]","J2EE Versus .NET - Midterm Progress Report | PDF",1790104232]
