And when this response is provided by their parent AND by you, then they will more quickly develop confidence in you as their go-to person through the day.
Reflect on times when you've seen separation distress handled well, and times when you've seen this managed less well.
• As a team, share any helpful strategies or approaches that you've used or observed Now, consider a child who might be helped by this approach.
• Would it help to discuss this approach with their parent/carer ahead of time?
• Might the child benefit from practising their goodbyes in advance? If so, when and how can you make this happen?
Following video part 2:
• Reflect on possible 'contextually understandable' reasons for why a child might be reluctant to be away from their parent
• Consider the kinds of practical supports that families might benefit from in these circumstances.
• How might your centre improve awareness of and access to these supports?
Following video part 3:
Reflect on times when you've seen transitions handled well, and times when you've seen transitions managed less well.
• As a team, share any helpful strategies or approaches that you've used or observed
• Do you already use visual charts and/or predictable songs in your room?
• If not, consider how you might introduce these to enhance the predictability of your daily routine
Following video part 4:
Consider your centre's current activities and approaches for readying children for school.
• Were there any other activities or suggestions covered in this video that you might also be
able to add in?
• Can you think of any potential obstacles? How might you overcome these obstacles and embed these new approaches or activities in your centre?
Well done to you and your team on completing this inservice training session.
And thank you for your commitment to your important profession.

| Additional training resources from Dr Kaylene Henderson if you'd like to learn more about managing transitions, school readiness and enhancing a sense of predictability in your routines (particularly important for children who have experienced trauma): | | |
| --- | --- | --- |
| | | Raising Good Kids’: Guiding Behavioural and Emotional Learning in Early Childhood Care and Education Settings (Updated 2023),
and
Complete Trauma Course for Early Childhood Educators
Details for both of these courses can be found here:
[https://drkaylenehenderson.com/introducing](https://drkaylenehenderson.com/introducing)dr-kaylene-hendersons-acclaimed-courseseries-for-early-years-educators/ |

| Parenting resources to recommend: | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| | A Dose of School Readiness: Ensuring Your Child Is Ready To Start and Succeed at School
[https://adoseofaweso](https://adoseofaweso)[meness.com/advice](meness.com/advice)packs/a-dose-ofschool-readiness/ | | Fre","cbCaieOwqzQRJI6O","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaieOwqzQRJI6O","pdf",372741,"English","# Inservice Pack 4 - Handling Transitions and Separations
## Training resources included
## Suggested session format
## Discussion points after each video part
### Following video part 1
### Following video part 2
### Following video part 3
### Following video part 4
## Additional training and parenting resources","[{"question":"What materials are included in Inservice Pack 4 for educators?","answer":"The pack includes four short videos labeled part 1–4, a printable handout for each educator attendee with a suggested script for separation distress and space for notes, and a printable certificate template for adding educator names and the date."},{"question":"How should the training leader structure the session?","answer":"Guide the team through the four professional learning videos, pausing after each one for a short discussion among educators, using the reflection points provided."},{"question":"What discussion prompts are suggested for transitions and school readiness?","answer":"Prompts include reflecting on past experiences with transitions handled well or less well, using visual charts and predictable songs to increase routine predictability, and reviewing current school-preparation activities to add improvements and anticipate obstacles."}]","Inservice Pack 4 - Handling Transitions and Separations - Training Leader's Guide | PDF",1789612667]
