Basic Education gazetted the policy on the Prevention and Management of Learner Pregnancy in Schools with the aim of promoting the constitutional right of learners to basic education by ensuring that they are not excluded from schools because of pregnancy and childbirth. In addition, the policy mandates schools to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for learners to continue and complete their basic education.\nThe purpose of the guide is to provide the necessary information about the management of learner pregnancy in schools. Furthermore, to ensure that schools are safe, free of stigma and provide a non-discriminatory environment for learners during and after their pregnancy.\nGUIDING PRINCIPLES OF THE LPPM GUIDE\nWHO MAY USE THE IMPLEMENTATION GUIDE?\nThe guide will be used by School Management Team, School Governing Body, School Based Support Team, School Safety Committee, and any other strategic partners such as social sector departments (DoH, DSD, DoJ, SAPS, DWYPD). Partnership will be established with key stakeholders such as NGOs, Unions, parents, and learner bodies. Roles and responsibilities for the different implementation levels are outlined below (See Annexure A)\nRESPONDING TO A DISCLOSURE OF A LEARNER PREGNANCY\nResponding to a Disclosure\nThe principal must manage and co-ordinate this process:\nTo maintain confidentiality, the principal must report to the School Governing Body (SGB) and the School Based Support Team (SBST) that a learner is pregnant, without necessarily divulging the learner’s name.\nWhen it is evident that a learner is pregnant, the matter must be treated with great sensitivity and confidentiality.\nIf the pregnancy is disclosed to an educator or support staff, the official/party has a responsibility to inform the school principal.\nThe school must nominate an educator and/or support staff to support the learner. However, it should also be considered that the learner will be most likely to have chosen the person who they wish to disclose to because of their sense of trust in the person.\nIt is critical to find space, physical space to stop and listen to the learner. Inform the learner regarding the range of support that can be provided a","cbCaihKM0iOXCe82","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihKM0iOXCe82","docx",848924,19,"English","# PURPOSE OF THE GUIDE\n# GUIDING PRINCIPLES OF THE LPPM GUIDE\n# WHO MAY USE THE IMPLEMENTATION GUIDE?\n# RESPONDING TO A DISCLOSURE OF A LEARNER PREGNANCY\n## Responding to a Disclosure\n## Working with Parents / Guardian of the Learner Concerned\n# GUIDELINES FOR SUPPORT DURING PREGNANCY\n## Individual Support Plan\n## Afforded reasonable academic accommodation due to pregnancy.\n## Pregnancy during Senior Certificate Examinations\n# SUPPORTING THE LEARNER AFTER THE BIRTH\n## Re-entry for a learner who was away from school due to pregnancy.\n## Re-integrating learners into schooling post-pregnancy.","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of the LPPM implementation guide for learner pregnancy in schools?\",\"answer\":\"To provide necessary information for managing learner pregnancy so schools are safe, stigma-free, and offer a non-discriminatory environment during and after pregnancy.\"},{\"question\":\"Who uses the implementation guide and what collaboration is required?\",\"answer\":\"School Management Team, School Governing Body, School Based Support Team, School Safety Committee, and strategic partners such as relevant government departments, NGOs, unions, parents, and learner bodies.\"},{\"question\":\"How should a school respond when a learner discloses pregnancy?\",\"answer\":\"The principal must manage and coordinate the process with strict confidentiality, designate support staff, ensure sensitive listening, agree on next steps, and connect the learner to appropriate health and social services.\"}]","Implementation Guide on the Prevention and Management of Learner Pregnancy in Schools - Purpose of the Guide | DOCX",1788329184,7]
