The specific objectives were to determine the roles of consultants and their impact on construction project outcomes. \nDesign/Methodology/Approach: Survey research design was used for this study. Construction professionals were purposely selected using a questionnaire as a research instrument. A total of 100 questionnaires were administered to the respondents, but 91 questionnaires were retrieved and used for the study. Frequency, percentage, mean score and ranking were used to analyse the data. \nFindings: The study identified up to 15 significant consultant roles in construction projects and established their impact on project outcomes. \nPractical Implication: Consultants play several roles; the topmost are planning, designing, and overseeing/supervising construction projects. It implies that there could be disruptions to the construction workflow and many negative outcomes when consultants are not fully engaged early. \nSocial Implications: Construction stakeholders (clients and contractors) need to be educated about the significant role consultants play in construction projects. This can be achieved by raising awareness and sensitising stakeholders (clients and contractors) to the implications of involving consultants in project construction. \nOriginality / Value: This study contributes to enhancing construction project outcomes through operations consultants. \nKeywords: Construction. consultants, involvement. projects. roles \nISSN: 2408-7920 \nPapers were presented at the 3rd International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructural Development, held at Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria, September 2-4, 2024. \nⓒ African Journal of Applied Research \nINTRODUCTION \nConsultants are vital in various aspects of business, including construction. They are trained professionals with specific skills and expertise in specialised fields, operating privately to provide services to clients such as estimation, production documents, coordination, and so on (McLeod & Schapper, 2024) . The consultant is an independent professional whose ability has been developed to analyse the components of an organisation's intended plans of action and to disseminate his expertise to ensure that intended objectives/goals are met. Consultants in the construction industry include architects, builders, engineers, quantity surveyors and project managers. \nConsultants’ performance in construction projects is hinged on resource adequacy, understanding of the client's requirements, competency and experience, commitment and flexibility, and so on (Abdulazeez et al., 2024) . Critical to the performance of construction projects are the consultants whose expertise is engaged to undertake construction and whose activities or actions influence the project's performance (Masengesho et al., 2021) . Consultants play diverse roles that influence the outcomes of construction projects and are considered determinants of project performance. For instance, the architect takes up the role of planning, designing and overseeing/supervising construction projects and also visits the site periodically for inspections to ensure that, in general, the work being carried out on the site isin compliance with architectural desig","cbCaijURBlEKgIey","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijURBlEKgIey","pdf",498179,"English","# ABSTRACT\n# INTRODUCTION\n# LITERATURE REVIEW","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of the study on consultants in construction projects?\",\"answer\":\"The study examines how consultants affect construction project outcomes, including the specific roles consultants play and their impact on results.\"},{\"question\":\"How was the data collected and analysed?\",\"answer\":\"A survey design was used with questionnaires administered to construction professionals.
