You will be investigating the town that we live in as if you were a geographer. Look at the online map of our town using Scribble Maps ([www.scribblemaps.com](www.scribblemaps.com)) . \nw Look for and circle any geographical patterns on the map (such as, where streets areplaced, where homes are located, and so on) . \nw Look at and circle the physical features on the map (such as grassy areas, hills, rivers, and so on) . \nw Circle and label one feature on the map for each theme of geography (location, movement, region, and human-environment interaction) . \n2. You will be put into peer groups. Each group will be assigned one of the five themes of geography to focus on for this project. Look again at the town map. Look for and label all ways in which that map represents your theme of geography. Look for improvements that can be made to the town, based on your theme of geography. The following are some questions to think about. \nw What can the town do to improve its appeal to tourists and potential residents? \nw How can the town use the human and physical characteristics of its place on the map to provide a better place to live for its citizens? \nw How can the town encourage more people to move there? \nw How can the town interact with the environment to create a healthier atmosphere for its citizens? \nw How can the town work with other areas within its region to improve its citizens’ quality of life? \nw Use a web-based mind map like MindMeister ([www.mindmeister.com](www.mindmeister.com)) [or Bubbl.us](or Bubbl.us) ([www](www) \n. [bubbl.us](bubbl.us)) to brainstorm ideas and connections as a group. Other groups can give you feedback and make comments on your mind-map ideas. \n3. Come to a consensus on a definite improvement that can be made in your town. Use your theme of geography for justifying why that improvement should be made. \n[4. in](4. in) your groups, create a way to persuade your town to make this improvement. Decide on who you should talk to about your idea. The following are some ideas for connections to make: \nw Authority figures like the police \nw Town officials like the mayor \nw Residents \nw Community organizations like the local historical board \npage 1 of 3 \nReal-World Learning Framework for Secondary Schools © 2016 Solution Tree Press • [solution-tree.com](solution-tree.com)[ ](solution-tree.com)Visit [go.solution-tree.com/instruction](go.solution-tree.com/instruction) to download this page. \nR E P R O D U C I B L E | 18 1 \n5. Create a product to communicate your idea to the targeted audience. \n6. Explain the improvement that needs to be made. \n7. Justify why that improvement should be made using your theme of geography. \n8. Develop a plan to implement your improvement in the community. \nw Create an estimated list of expenses, and include where the funding of the project should come from. \nw Create an outline that lists the detailed steps to be taken to implement your improvement in the community. \n9. Use technology for creating your final product, such as: \nw A blog that includes input from the mayor or community leaders \nw A multimedia presentation to give at a town council meeting; you could choose tools like Animoto or PhotoPeach \nw An online pamphlet or brochure to email to community officials \nw Other ideas students suggested \n10. Give your presentation to community leaders, and note their response. Were they in favor of your ideas? Do you think that they will implement your plan? \npage 2 of 3 \nReal-World Learning Framework for Secondary Schools © 2016 Solution Tree Press • [solution-tree.com](solution-","cbCailwWPef5qint","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailwWPef5qint","pdf",58073,"English","# Project Tasks\n## Investigate the town using the online map\n## Peer groups by geography themes\n## Reach consensus and justify the improvement\n## Create a persuasive product and presentation\n## Implementation planning and budget","[{\"question\":\"How do students start the project on improving their town?\",\"answer\":\"Students investigate their town as a geographer by using an online map (Scribble Maps) to look for geographical patterns and physical features.\"},{\"question\":\"What work happens in peer groups during the project?\",\"answer\":\"Each peer group is assigned one of the five themes of geography, labels how the town map represents that theme, and identifies improvements connected to it.\"},{\"question\":\"How do groups finalize and present their improvement idea?\",\"answer\":\"Groups create a definite improvement, justify it using their geography theme, develop a way to persuade targeted community audiences, and produce a final product and presentation for community leaders.\"}]","How Can We Improve Our Town? - Geography Project Guide | PDF",1789110833]
