Some examples: \n◆ It’s difficult to invoice on a member basis when more than one person with ownership rights receives invoices for the same property. If more than one person pays the same invoice, you are left with duplicate payments to resolve. It’s possible to work around this situation, as this document shows, but some communities, especially larger ones, want another approach. \n◆ During community-wide voting, you need to ensure that each property casts only one vote. \n◆ In some communities, individual homeowners own more than one property, and need to pay dues for/vote based on each property they own without setting up more than one Membership account to do so. \n◆ Some residents engage property managers to pay their dues and assessments, and therefore need to have their invoices sent to someone else. \nThe Households feature solves these problems. \n◆ With Households active, everyone who’s allowed to make payments (or vote in Household polls/ surveys) receives an invoice from each billing—but as soon as one owner pays the invoice, the obligation is satisfied for all of them. \n◆ Likewise, with the Households feature set up, as soon as one qualified Household voter casts a ballot, the others are blocked from voting—and if the voter owns more than one property that’s setup in Households, their vote is multiplied by the number of properties they own. \nIf you already have loaded your Member data into the system, that’s a great starting point for setting up Households. Here’s how to repurpose your existing Member information to create Households quickly and easily. BEFORE YOU GET STARTED, PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT NOTES AND EXCEPTIONS. \nThe Households import system includes three import templates: “Addresses,” “Households,” and“Household Members.” \nMany, if not most, communities will be able to use a single import template (“Household Members”) to set up their Household data. Just as the “Households” template contains all the data fields in the “Addresses” template, the “Household Members” template contains all the data fields in the“Households” template—with one exception. If you need to use Household Labels for billing or voting purposes, you will need to use both the “Households” and the “Household Members” templates. \nPlease review the Online Help topic titled “How to Decide If You Need to Use Households—and Optimize Your Data Imports (Including Members) If You Do” for important information about how to determine whether you need to use the “Households” import template and not just the “Household Members” template. The import method discussed in this guide uses only the “Household Members”template. \n©2026 HOA Start v.04.17.26 \nQUICK REFERENCE GUIDE \nHOUSEHOLDS: IMPORTING EXISTING MEMBERS—CONTINUED \nClick on the “Membership” tab and select “Members” from the vertical Admin Dashboard menu. From the “Members Actions” button, choose “Member Import” to download a spreadsheet-compatible CSV file with the data you will need for Households. \nNext, download a Households Import CSV template. Click on the“Households”tab and select“Household Imports” from the vertical Admin Dashboard menu. From the “Import Actions”button, choose “Import Household Members” and click on the “Download Import Template” button to download the template. \n©2026 HOA Start v.04.17.26 \nQUICK REFERENCE GUIDE \nHOUSEHOLDS: IMPORTING EXISTING MEMBERS—CONTINUED \nOpen both the “Members” export file and the “Household Members” import template in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel or Apple Numbers. Copy and paste from the export file to the import template as indicated here. (The Lot Number and Address Line 2 fields are optional in both files. The Household Memberss import template does not contain the Phone Number and Tags fields.)
