There is a need to develop and understand best practices that lead to an optimization of the final assembly process. \nCost – While the cost of automating can be significant, other program cost drivers can offset it. \nAutomation can lower conversion cost and imputed floor space cost. Flexible automation can be used for multiple programs, lowering the capital cost for future projects, sometimes significantly. \nLead Time – Lead times can be long when automating. Establishing standard, flexible automation can reduce lead times and eliminate the need to procure new capital in some cases. \nQuality – Sometimes a significant amount of refinement is necessary to achieve target quality from an automated process. The establishment of best practices can guide companies to their targeted quality levels by preventing the pitfalls that compromise quality. \nAutomation best practices can guide companies to optimal final assembly processes; minimizing cost, lead time, and achieving target quality. \nScope of Work \n􀁸 Develop a uniform set of guidelines, practices and recommendations for automation and main/final assembly \no Flexibility is needed in reusability, redeployability and reconfigurability which are potentially driven by shorter product lifecycles \n􀁸 Definition of communication and interfaces among equipment is needed \no Between equipment and equipment \no Between equipment and its ancillary systems \nPurpose of Project \n􀁸 To provide a thorough understanding of best practices to facilitate the final assembly of electronics products documented in such a form that member companies can use it for training and reference. \n􀁸 Develop a published list of standard preferred packaging formats for the main categories of odd form components. \nIS / IS NOT Analysis \n\n| This Project IS: | This Project IS NOT: |\n| --- | --- |\n| To ID/Develop Best Practices on assembly | Development of a standard |\n| | |\n| Planning to share results via a white paper which may lead to a standard developed by another organization | Circuit board assembly |\n| | |\n| Minimize custom development; choose off the shelf solutions | Only automated assembly |\n| | |\n| Industry agnostic | Development of a universal automated cell |\n| | |\n| Consideration of Automated, Semi-automated final assembly | Cost Benefit Analysis |\n| | |\n| Standard Final Assembly Processes: Pick and Place; Parts Packaging; Parts Presentation; Dispensing; Fastening; Press operations; Material Handling; Marking and Labeling; Handling for Test | Standard Final Assembly Processes: Testing and Inspection; Surface Treatment/Preparation (includes cleaning) |\n| | |\n| Manufacturing Volume/Mix Best Practices | Environmental/Facility Considerations |\n| | |\n| Intelligent Sensing and Vision | |\n| Define communication and interfaces among equipment\u003Cbr>􀁸 Between equipment and equipment\u003Cbr>• Between equipment and its ancillary systems | |\n\nNOTE: All changes to SOW must be approved by the Technical Committee for version control Page 2 of 6 \nBusiness Impact \nParticipation in the project will provide information on the improvement of quality, reduction in implementation time and/or reduction in cost associated with automation of final assembly by: \n􀁸 Increased implementation of DFMA (Design for Manufacture & Assembly) \n􀁸 Identifying key assembly processes and their parameters \n􀁸 For companies just venturing into automation, suggestions and options to make their processes run smoothly \n􀁸 Increasing efficiency and quality of automation \n􀁸 Identifying additional ave","cbCaip7bojkigFbW","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaip7bojkigFbW","pdf",509649,6,"English","# Basic Project Information\n## Background/Context\n## Scope of Work\n## Purpose of Project\n## IS / IS NOT Analysis\n# Business Impact\n# Participating Organizations\n# Outcome of Project\n# Previous Related Work\n# Prospective Participants\n# Project Plan\n## Schedule with Milestones","[{\"question\":\"What problem does the project address?\",\"answer\":\"The project targets concerns in final assembly automation, specifically cost, lead time, and quality, by developing best practices that optimize the process.\"},{\"question\":\"What is included in the project scope?\",\"answer\":\"The scope covers uniform guidelines for automation and final assembly, flexibility needs for reuse/redeploy/reconfigure, and defining communication and interfaces among equipment and ancillary systems.\"},{\"question\":\"Who can use the project outcomes?\",\"answer\":\"Member companies can use the documented best practices for training and reference, and packaging recommendations are intended to be shared publicly to help form the basis of a standard.\"}]","Final Assembly Automation and Optimization Project - Version 1.0 - SOW | PDF",1789223367]
