It is the study of the body by diagnosing from the Iris of the eye, that is the coloured part of the eye. \nThis science was pioneered by a Hungarian Doctor, Ignatz von Peczely in 1800 and is used extensively today by Naturopaths throughout the World. His work was taken up by Dr Bernard Jensen, Chiropractor, Naturopath and Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor. Dr Jensen published his final charts after years of research and practice, in 1980. \nIridology is necessary for a more accurate diagnosis of conditions people are suffering and the Naturopaths can interpret the causes of these ailments by observing the patterns, colors, and other characteristics of the iris to determine information about a patient's systemic health. Practitioners match their observations to an iris chart, which divides the iris into zones that correspond to specific parts of the human body. \nIridologists use the charts to distinguish between healthy systems and organs in the body and those that are underactive, inflamed, or distressed. Iridologists believe this information demonstrates apatient's susceptibility towards certain illnesses, reflects past medical problems, or can predict possible later health issues. \nThe iris is the coloured area surrounding the transparent pupil (showing as black) . The white outer area is known as the sclera. Iridologists generally use equipment such as a flashlight and magnifying glass, cameras or slit-lamp microscopes to examine a patient's irises. The markings and patterns are compared to an iris chart that correlates zones of the iris with parts of the body. Typical charts divide the iris into approximately 80-90 zones. For example, the zone corresponding to the kidney is in the lower part of the iris, just before 6 o'clock. \nNaturopaths are the only practitioners that are qualified to use Iridology as part of their diagnostic skills. This is all the Naturopathic physician needs to address the cause not just the symptoms. \nThis is an example of an iridology chart, \n[published by Dr Bernard Jensen N. D. in 1980](published by Dr Bernard Jensen N.
