All workplaces have their own unique blend of culture, purpose, benefits and growth opportunities, which often aren’t obvious until people start working there. An EVP helps you share this story even before someone joins your team. By embedding diversity, equity and inclusion into your EVP, you can demonstrate how your organisation creates safety, support and belonging.\nWhen your EVP is visible and accessible it helps you attract more diverse and values-aligned job seekers through your recruitment process. Candidates prioritise workplaces that reflect their values and want to work in environments that are safe, supportive and engaging. Creating this alignment up front is a great way to build your talent pool.\nThere’s a lot of competition in the recruitment market. Your EVP can help you to stand out by explaining why someone should choose to work with you. This is invaluable if someone is deciding between two or more employers.\nWhile EVPs are traditionally considered a recruitment tool, there are also significant benefits for retention as well. Involving your people in designing your EVP encourages them to reflect on what they value, appreciate and enjoy about working in your organisation. When your EVP matches your employees’ experience, they are much more likely to stay (even when they have challenging days).\nBeing clear about the benefits and rewards available to your workforce demonstrates transparency, builds trust and strengthens your employer brand and reputation.\nPractical uses for your EVP\nEmployer branding - have your EVP displayed on your website or shared on your socials. Potential employees, clients and other stakeholders can get a feel for the work environment and what they can expect from engaging with your organisation.\nRecruitment processes – use the consistent wording from your EVP in your job ads to attract values-aligned and more diverse workers.\nInduction and onboarding – communicate your EVP with new starters so they know what they can expect and how they can access the benefits, perks and rewards you’ve documented. It also helps to set expectations of values and behaviours.\nTeam building and connection – conduct annual workshops to review and update your EVP. Use this as an opportunity to bring people together, get feedback and build connection to the organisation’s mission and values.\nFunding applications – include key aspects of your EVP when applying for relevant grants and tenders, e.g. funding for capacity building, inclusion initiatives, marketing, workforce planning and development.\nHow to use this template:\nFollowing this process will help you define your organisation’s Employee Value Proposition (EVP) - what makes your workplace meaningful, inclusive and unique.\nStep 1 – For each section:\nread the guiding statement to understand what the section covers\nuse the prompt questions to reflect on your organisation’s strengths. We recommend doing this as a workshop with a selection of staff from different roles/teams/locations –\nStart with a “brain dump”. You could do this as a group conversation or provide individuals with Post-it notes to write down their ideas and invite them to then share with the group. The purpose of this step is to get out all the first ideas that come to mind and any specific examples the group can think of.\nNote each suggestion in the blank text box provided. Once shared, discuss. What resonates with the rest of the group? Has something come up that others disagree with? Does anything need clarification? You may find that one word or phrase can mean quite different things to different people.
