The Tutor will develop an assignment based on a Theme and Topic set by Pearson each year. Themes and Topics are released in March and become ‘active’ in September. The Theme and Topic will remain ‘active’ until the following September.\nThe annual release of the Theme & Topic follows a process of industry and academic review and validation. Pearson’s Higher Education Subject Lead for Creative Media Production will consult with industry representatives, academics and the Senior External Examiner to identify an appropriate Theme & Topic for the year.\nYou will find the latest Theme & Topic Releases on the Pearson Qualifications website.\nThe aim of the Pearson-set Unit is to provide a common framework for the development of assignments across all centres, for a given year. This will enable Pearson, via the External Examiner visits, to identify and share examples of good practice in:\nassignment design\nassessment practice\nstudent work\nThrough the delivery, assessment and External Examining of this unit, Pearson aims to continue to support centres to enhance the student experience of the Higher Nationals by highlighting examples of good practice.\nThe Relationship between Theme, Topic and Assignment\nIn preparing to deliver and assess this unit, Tutors should familiarise themselves with the Learning Outcomes, Assessment Criteria and Essential Content of the unit.\nIt is important to remember that the assignment must provide the student with the opportunity to achieve the Learning Outcomes through undertaking work related to the Theme & Topic, rather than being an assignment about the Topic.\nThe unit is designed to assess students’ knowledge and skill in undertaking and managing a project.
