This whitepaper is here to explain the different key elements that will drive a dematerialization strategy, where an inbound our outbound document flow is combined with an electronic archive. \nIntroduction \ne-Invoicing is different than plain old EDI \ne-Invoicing isnot new. In for example manufacturing and distribution , EDI has been there for many decades. However, the process was limited to organizations that have a well structured procurement relation where long term benefits were reached after a complex setup effort. \nWhat is new is the fact that companies not planning to align their internal processesare exchanging electronic documents. Driving factor is not the logistic operational excellence but focus is on financial process efficiency and cost cutting. \nAttention is growing fast \nAlthough on a European level the playfield exists since 2004, many organizations felt not at ease to de-materialize their invoices. One reason being the regulation aspect, changing processing from paper driven to automated processing was the other bottleneck. Financial departments were mainly paper focused , changing both the processing and at the same time dematerializing using complex technological standardsjust was a step too far. \nBut, times are changing.. The last couple of years, a lot of attention has been given to simplify the regulation where the goal is to treat as equal the electronic invoice and the paper document. Also, solutions have evolved to align more to the well-known paper flow. More and more companies have gained experience in electronic document processing through early pilot projects, and indeed the benefits are being considered as substantial. \nDifferent players, different expectations \nCurrently we experience a rush to invoice dematerialization projects. However, different project scopescan be observed: \n∙ Existing EDI flows for which the final invoice is also being dematerialized; \n∙ Billers that push electronic PDF documents to their customers, replacing paper invoice delivery \n∙ Buyer organizations that implement large invoice scanning projects \n∙ Buyer organizations that request their suppliers to implement electronic invoicing using a pre-defined data standard \n∙ Market places self-billing? \nAs different techniques are involved , both document and transaction based , different company types have developed service offerings out from their specialization: \n∙ Electronic post-men offering networking services \n∙ Document processing providers, grown out of paper business (print and scan) \n∙ Financial institutions, asan invoice is also directly linked \n∙ Workflow solution providers, to support managed document flow \n∙ Archive Infrastructure \n∙ Integrators, that promise end-to-end straight through automation \n∙ SaaS offerings combining many of the pieces that take full responsibility of the complete invoice process \nDifferent expectations are set by the stakeholders, and that sometimes makes the definition of an e-Invoice unclear. Some organizations define e-Invoicing as implementing a dematerialized workflow by scanning paper documents, others go fora legal electronic archive and still others add an end-to-end automation to the definition. \ne-Invoice: a definition \nDematerialization means: no paper document \n∙ From legislation point-of-view an electronic PDF isan e-Invoice \n∙ Some people expect also automation \n∙ Some people are happy with a scanned copy of a paper document \nAn e-Invoice is paperless \nAn electronic invoice is defined asan electronic document being the official invoice avoiding the need to exchange paper document. There are a number of requirements for this document, where for example the supplier needs to guarantee that he created the document and the content is original and unchanged. \nThe most common f","cbCaipUPPwMvai27","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipUPPwMvai27","pdf",134717,"English","# Introduction\n## e-Invoicing is different than plain old EDI\n## What is new: from procurement EDI to broader financial process alignment\n## Attention is growing fast\n## Different players, different expectations\n# e-Invoice: a definition\n## Dematerialization means: no paper document\n## An e-Invoice is paperless\n## Legal electronic archiving is mandatory\n# European legislation","[{\"question\":\"How does e-invoicing differ from traditional EDI?\",\"answer\":\"Traditional EDI relied on tightly structured long-term procurement relationships and complex setup.
