Influenced by the artists’ indigenous roots, the unused space is being reimagined in a way that celebrates the past while looking into the future. The vision is a vibrant community gathering place that bridges arts, culture, tourism and downtown businesses. For more information about Paseo de ALAC and the first portion of the mural project, visit the Arizona Latino Arts & Cultural Center at 147 E. Adams Street. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nJOSE ANDRES GIRON \nHeavily influenced by his family, which were early settlers in the Southwest, Jose Andres Giron’s artwork harkens back to childhood memories of his grandmother’s cattle ranch and living in the Golden Gate Barrio of Phoenix. As a proud veteran, he used his G. I. benefits to attend art school and has been heavily involved in the Latino arts movement ever since. He continues to draw inspiration from his roots and the enchanted lands of the Southwest. Individuals see different things in the abstract figures he designs, which is why the interpretation is fluid and shifting. Each unique form is a reflection of the music he listens to, friends and family who inspire him and the vibrant urban landscape around him.
