This paper presents the design and implementation of a fully automated smart restaurant system that eliminates human intervention across the entire customer journey from reservation to exit. The proposed architecture integrates a cross-platform mobile application for slot booking, digital menu browsing, secure payment processing, and QR code generation with a multi-layered physical infrastructure comprising QR-based gate validation, automated table assignment with real-time display boards and SMS notifications, interactive table-mounted communication boards, and autonomous service robots for food delivery. The system employs a RESTful API middleware layer to synchronise the mobile front-end with embedded IoT controllers and robot navigation modules. Experimental evaluation on a prototype deployment demonstrates a 73% reduction in average customer wait time, a 68% improvement in order accuracy, and a mean food delivery time of 4.2 minutes per table. User experience surveys conducted with 120 participants yield a System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 84.6, indicating excellent usability. Comparative analysis against conventional restaurant operations confirms statistically significant improvements across all measured performance dimensions. The proposed system establishes a scalable, cost-effective blueprint for next-generation autonomous hospitality environments. \nKeywords: Smart restaurant; Service robots; Mobile application; QR code authentication; IoT integration; Automated table management; Human-robot interaction; Contactless hospitality \nCorresponding author: Seeram Srinivasa Rao \nFunding: This research received no external funding. \n1. Introduction \nThe global restaurant industry, valued at approximately USD 3.5 trillion in 2023, faces mounting operational pressures including rising labour costs, post-pandemic hygiene expectations, and intensifying customer demand for seamless, personalised service experiences [1] . Traditional restaurant models, which rely heavily on human staff for reservation management, order taking, food delivery, and billing, are inherently susceptible to service inconsistencies, communi","cbCaigxtV17rmzyQ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigxtV17rmzyQ","pdf",917325,"English","# Introduction\n## End-to-end automation motivation\n## Proposed system overview","[{\"question\":\"What is the main goal of the smart restaurant system described in this paper?\",\"answer\":\"To provide fully automated hospitality with no mandatory human intervention, covering the full customer journey from reservation to exit.\"},{\"question\":\"Which components enable the system to authenticate customers and manage table assignment?\",\"answer\":\"A cross-platform mobile application together with a cryptographically secured, time-bound QR code protocol for gate validation and table assignment, supported by real-time display boards and notifications.\"},{\"question\":\"What improvements were observed in the prototype evaluation?\",\"answer\":\"The prototype deployment reported a 73% reduction in average customer wait time, a 68% improvement in order accuracy, and a mean food delivery time of 4.2 minutes per table.\"}]","Design and Implementation of a Fully Automated Smart Restaurant Using Mobile Applications and Service Robots | PDF",1791837413,7]
