The correspondence explains that the corrections are due to inaccurate distribution codes previously reported. The document clearly outlines specific circumstances triggering these corrections, such as pension benefits received via an Eligible Domestic Relations Order (EDRO) or benefits received before and after age 59½. Recipients are informed that the new forms will reflect distribution codes 2 or 7 accordingly, and they are advised that no further action is required on their part. The communication emphasizes that this is a reporting update, while also suggesting consultation with a tax professional regarding individual filing needs. Included in this envelope is a corrected 1099-R, which you should keep foryour records. \nWhy am I receiving a corrected 1099-R form? \nCorrected 1099-R forms are being issued for the tax years of 2017, 2018, and 2019 if any of the following circumstances apply: \n􀁸 You received pension benefits as the result of an Eligible Domestic Relations Order (EDRO) issued following a divorce. \n􀁸 You were under age 59½ as of December 31 of the tax year. \n􀁸 You received some pension benefits before age 59½ and some after age 59½ within in the same tax year. (In this case, you will receive two corrected 1099-R forms, each of which will arrive in a separate envelope. ) \nWhat is different on the form? \nIf you received benefits either under the age of 59½ or as the result of an EDRO , your corrected 1099-R will show the distribution code 2. \nIf you also collected benefits after the age of 59½, your second corrected 1099-R will show the distribution code 7. If you receive multiple forms for the same tax year, federal and state tax withholdings for each portion of the year will be shown accordingly. If you are receiving benefits through MERS from more than one employer , this will be the same for all employments. \nDo I need to do anything with the form? \nNo action is required. This is simply a reporting change that MERS is required to provide foryour records. While we do not believe that you need to file an amended return based on this change, we encourage you to speak to a tax professional about your specific situation if you have additional questions. \nShould you need further assistance from MERS, please contact our Service Center at 800.767.6377. \nSincerely, \nMunicipal Employees’ Retirement System","cbCail7WmxClAxbj","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCail7WmxClAxbj","pdf",156739,"English","# Notice of Corrected 1099-R Tax Form\n## Reasons for Receiving a Corrected Form\n## Changes in Distribution Codes\n## Action Required by Retirees","[{\"question\":\"Why am I receiving a corrected 1099-R form from MERS?\",\"answer\":\"You are receiving a corrected form because MERS discovered that the original 1099-R forms issued for tax years 2017, 2018, and 2019 contained incorrect distribution codes for certain pension benefit scenarios.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the specific distribution codes used on the corrected forms?\",\"answer\":\"The corrected forms will show distribution code 2 if benefits were received under age 59½ or due to an EDRO, and distribution code 7 for benefits collected after reaching age 59½.\"},{\"question\":\"Do I need to file an amended tax return after receiving this form?\",\"answer\":\"No action is required.
