While this is a normal response, it can help to show yourself compassion in these moments instead.\nCompassion means showing understanding, care, warmth, kindness and love towards someone – in this case, to yourself.\nTo face your own negative thoughts about yourself, you're going to write yourself a letter. Try writing it with the compassion that you might offer to a close friend, partner or family member if they felt negative about themselves.\nIf you find this exercise difficult, you can always take a break and come back to it later. Or you can talk it through with someone you trust.\nHow to write the letter\nOn the next page, you'll find 2 sections to write in. Start by listing things that you don't feel happy with about yourself or challenges you're going through.\nRead through your list. Although you just wrote these things about yourself, now imagine you're someone close to the person who wrote the list.\nWhen you feel ready, write a letter in response with words of comfort and support. The letter should help you feel better about the negative thoughts or challenges in the list.\nYour letter could start with ‘Dear…’ followed by your own name. Go through each negative thing on the list, responding to each thing with love and kindness.\nTry to write to yourself with the same compassion you'd give to someone close to you. You might say things like ‘I'm so sorry you're going through that, it must feel really hard but it won't last forever’, ‘You're not alone, lots of us struggle with that sometimes’ or ‘You're still a worthy person’.\nAfter you've finished, don't look at the letter again for a day or so. When you come back to it, read it as yourself – imagine that you just got the letter from someone close to you.\nWhen you start to feel low in confidence or self-esteem, your compassionate letter will be there for you to read.\nWriting my letter: part 1\nWhat am I not happy with about myself? What challenges am I facing? Make a list.\nWriting my letter: part 2\nDear…\nNow, imagine you're someone close to you. Make sure you've read the instructions on the first page before writing the letter to yourself.","cbCaivLaeMLnPOLK","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaivLaeMLnPOLK","docx",109827,"English","# How to Write the Letter\n## Steps and prompts\n## Letter structure\n# Writing My Letter: Part 1\n## List concerns and challenges\n# Writing My Letter: Part 2\n## Draft the compassionate reply","[{\"question\":\"What is the goal of writing a compassionate letter to yourself?\",\"answer\":\"The goal is to respond to negative thoughts and challenges with comfort, warmth, and support so you can feel better about what you’re facing.\"},{\"question\":\"How should you start the letter?\",\"answer\":\"Begin with “Dear…” followed by your own name, then address each negative thing on your list with love and kindness.\"},{\"question\":\"When should you reread the letter?\",\"answer\":\"After finishing, don’t reread it for a day or so; when you return, read it as if it came from someone close to you.\"}]","Compassionate Letter to Myself - How to Write It | DOCX"]
