We strengthen our defenses, tackle the sources of pollution, and help provide resources to all New Yorkers so that our homes, businesses, and families can thrive in healthy and safe neighborhoods.  \nWhat is Climate Strong Communities (CSC)?  \nCSC works with community members in neighborhoods that are most at risk for extreme weather and that have historically been left out of the climate conversation. This collaboration allows the city to focus resources on projects that can protect against climate threats while also improving community spaces.  \nHow does climate change affect New York City’s neighborhoods?  \nClimate change isn’t coming. It’s here, bringing more coastal flooding, heavy rain, extreme heat, and poor air quality days. These are called climate threats, and they can disrupt New Yorkers’ daily lives, like when it’s too hot to walk to the grocery store or when flooding makes it hard for kids to get to school.  \nHow to Use the Card Deck  \nThis card deck is for community members to better understand Climate Strong Communities and how the program addresses climate threats in New York City. Use this tool to familiarize yourself with key terms, to discuss how climate change affects your neighborhood, and to understand what the city is doing to address these threats.  \nClimate Threats  \nClimate Threats are extreme weather events that pose threats to the city’s residents, neighborhoods, and infrastructure.  \nPlaces  \nPlaces are typical spaces that are common to New York City neighborhoods where Programs and Strategies could be implemented to protect residents from Climate Threats.  \nPrograms  \nPrograms are the infrastructure projects that Climate Strong Communities focuses on. They are designed to address Climate Threatsand could be implemented in Places across the city.  \nStrategies  \nStrategies are specific interventions within Programs that work together to address Climate Threats.  \nACTIVITIES  \n1. Understand Risk  \n1 Layout the  \n5 Climate Threat cards.  \n2 Lay out the  \n7 Place cards.  \n3 Choose 1 Climate Threat card.  \n4 Discuss which Places are impacted by the threat and match the Place cards to the Climate Threat card.
