Welcome back to Can't Shelve This, this podcast where we hammer home the importance of school libraries. I'm Janette Derucki and I'm joined today by my co-host Leah Gregory.\nLeah Gregory: Hi everyone.\nJanette: And our producer Ola Gronski.\nOla Gronski: Hello.\nJanette: It's great to see both of you, as always. How have you both been?\nOla: Surviving.\nLeah: Busy and cold pretty much sums it up.\nJanette: Busy and cold. It sounds like winter in the Midwest.\nLeah: Yes.\nJanette: Okay. But we're in the month of love, so hopefully you're also feeling the love?\nLeah: I do love Valentine's Day. And I don't know why. I think it's because it's like pretty, pink, and hearts and lace and flowers and all that stuff. But as far as, like, romance in our house, that's like long dead since we've been married, like, forever.\nJanette: I don't want to say ours is dead, but we are definitely, like, nontraditional gift people, like.\nLeah: Yes, so are we.\nJanette: I don't want flowers. I don't want chocolate. You better either give me something like just unique or just don't give me anything at all. Like, it's fine.\nLeah: We have a tradition where we get the heart-shaped pizza in my family, and it's like, it's mostly for my son. He's the one that wants to keep that tradition going. But.\nJanette: I love that so much.\nOla: That and the heart-shaped pastas.\nJanette: Oh, yeah.\nOla: Any sort of like seasonal-themed pasta shape, I am here for.\nJanette: I think one of my favorite things about this month is just like how it kind of brings people together. I know we make it a lot about romantic love, but I love the connections between people. And so, like I, you know, on social media, I just saw a woman sharing a post from her granddaughter's kindergarten class where they're looking to get Valentines from around the world and do a little mapping project. And I kind of really love the message that that sends, like how to connect people.\nOla: I do miss in school, those like themed Valentine's cards.\nJanette: Like the ones in the little box?\nOla: Like, we need to go back to that. Yeah, like, give me that, give me some [..]\nLeah: Marvel or whatever you love the most.\nOla: Because it also says a lot about the person's personality, about which like theme they pick, so.\nJanette: That’s true. What was your favorite theme? What did you always pick?\nOla: My God, that's actually a great question.\nJanette: I mean, it was way different when we were growing up because it was, you know, like the seventies, eighties. So.\nOla: Wait, truly, I have no memory.\nJanette: I feel like today they would all be like Bluey or [..]\nOla: Oh, they've got to be Bluey.\nJanette: Right.\nLeah: Paw Patrol.\nOla: Yeah, yeah, things like that.\nJanette: I do love those little valentines. Like getting them ready.\nOla: I expect one on my desk now, Janette, from you.\nJanette: I'll do my best. I was that mom who, like we would do the, like little box valentines. But then it was always like or like a sucker turned into a heart or, you know, those kinds of things. So I liked crafty Valentines.\nOla: Are you candy heart message people? I feel like those are divisive. They're like candy corn, right. Like where you either hate them or you love them.\nLeah: I like how they look. They're very cute, but I don't eat them. They taste like chalk to me.\nOla: I was going to say chalk. Yeah.\nJanette: No, I love them. Okay, so.\nOla: Really?\nJanette: Yes. Okay, this is I guess where we're going to agree to disagree because like candy corn? No, that tastes like wax. Wow. But, candy hearts, like the original, like the ones in the pink little box that do taste like chalk, I don't know why I love those. I do. I don't like the Brachs, the ones that are kind of, like, hard and tart. Like, I don't like those.\nLeah: My husband always made, like, very creative valentines for my kids. Like editing and photoshopping them. Like my daughter once sent one out where it was her sitting on, like it was in the sky and ","cbCaigKVUVzp3PJK","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigKVUVzp3PJK","docx",76314,6,37,"English","# Can't Shelve This - 1.5 Transcript\n## Valentine’s Day traditions\n## Themed Valentine cards in schools\n## Romance book recommendations","[{\"question\":\"What is the podcast’s main focus in this episode transcript?\",\"answer\":\"The hosts emphasize the importance of school libraries while using Valentine’s Day themes to discuss how people connect and build community.\"},{\"question\":\"How do the hosts describe their favorite Valentine traditions?\",\"answer\":\"They discuss heart-shaped foods, crafty Valentine ideas, themed cards, and classroom or family traditions like heart-shaped pizza and personalized treats.\"},{\"question\":\"What do the hosts say they look for in romance novels?\",\"answer\":\"They describe enjoying emotionally intense stories and rom-com vibes, with some preferring books that make them cry and feel deeply, while also balancing realism with escapism.\"}]","Can't Shelve This 1.5 - Transcript | DOCX",13]
