Therefore, insuring that the functions of the executive director are well understood and even shared among staff (when applicable) and volunteer leaders is important for safeguarding the CAC against unplanned and expected change. This kind of risk management is equally helpful in facilitating a smooth leadership transition when it is predictable and planned. \nThis document outlines a leadership development and succession plan for NAME OF CAC. This plan reflects NAME OF CAC’s commitment to sustaining a healthy functioning organization. The purpose of this plan is to insure that the organization’s leadership has adequate information and a strategy to effectively manage NAME OF CAC in the event the executive director is unable to fulfill his/her duties. \nPlan Implementation \nThe Board of Directors authorizes the Board President (OR OTHER APPROPRIATE INDIVIDUAL WITH GOVERNANCE AUTHORITY) to implement the terms of this succession plan in the event of a planned or unplanned temporary or short-term absence. \n􀁸 It is the responsibility of the Executive Director to inform the Board President of a planned temporary or short term absence, and to plan accordingly. \n􀁸 It is the responsibility of the Board President to immediately inform the Executive Committee of an unplanned temporary or short-term absence \n􀁸 As soon as feasible, following notification of an unplanned temporary or short-term absence, the Board President shall convene an Executive Committee meeting to affirm the procedures prescribed in this plan, or to modify them as needed depending on the circumstances of the absence/vacancy. \nPriority Functions of the Executive Director \nA current and accurate copy of the full Executive Director position description is attached to this plan. Among the duties listed in the position description, the following are considered to be the key functions of the position and have a corresponding temporary staffing strategy. \n\n| KEY FUNCTIONS (SAMPLES) | TEMPORARY STAFFING STRATEGY (SAMPLES) |\n| --- | --- |\n| Leadership and Vision | Board President |\n| Board Administration and Support | Acting or Interim Director\u003Cbr>Board Development Committee Chair ","cbCaifDoOggFd6kN","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaifDoOggFd6kN","pdf",584893,10,"English","# OVERVIEW\n## Rationale\n## Plan Implementation\n## Priority Functions of the Executive Director\n# SHORT TERM TEMPORARY SUCCESSION PLAN\n## Definitions\n## Temporary Staffing Strategy\n## Appointing an Acting Executive Director\n## Standing Appointees to the Position of Acting Executive Director\n## Cross-Training Plan\n## Authority and Restriction of the Acting Executive Director\n## Compensation\n## Board Oversight and Support to the Acting Executive Director\n## Communications Plan\n# LONG-TERM TEMPORARY SUCCESSION PLAN\n## Definition\n## Procedures\n# PERMANENT SUCCESSION PLAN\n## Definition\n## Procedures\n## Hiring an Interim Executive Director\n## Responsibilities of the interim Executive Director\n## Board Oversight and Support to the Interim Executive Director\n## Search for Permanent New Executive Director\n# APPROVALS AND MAINTENANCE OF RECORD\n## Emergency Succession Plan Approval\n## Signatories\n## Maintenance of record\n## Financial Considerations\n# SIGNATURES OF APPROVAL\n# ATTACHMENTS CHECKLIST","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this CAC succession plan sample?\",\"answer\":\"It serves as a resource for CACs to revise a plan that accurately reflects the organization’s policies and procedures for planned or unplanned absences affecting the Executive Director position.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the plan define temporary and unplanned absence?\",\"answer\":\"A temporary absence is expected to end when the precipitating events are resolved.
