To get the most out of this set up, a little photography knowledge goes a long way. There are three main pillars of photography, each of these affects how light is recorded by the sensor, but they will also have a secondary effect on the image.

| The aperture works like the iris, controlling the amount of light that enters the camera. The size of the aperture also has a secondary effect on the depth of field. Aperture is usually measured using f-stops. F/1 .4 is a large aperture size, letting in lots of light. The next stop, f/2 .0, lets in half as much light as f/1 .4. F/2 .8 lets in half as much light as f/2 .0 and so on. This is replaced with a simple 1-5 dial in the BX 900.
1 2 3 4 5 |
| --- |
|
APERTURE

More light Shallow depth of field

Less light
Greater depth of field
|

| The ISO refers to how the sensor (or film) reacts to light. By doubling the ISO, you are doubling the brightness of the image. An ISO 800 photo will be twice as bright as an ISO 400 photo. The ISO also controls the grain/noise. Low ISO settings are less sensitive to light and create smoother images. High ISO settings are more sensitive and can be used for low light situations, but will create a blotchy/gritty image.
100 200 400 800 1600 3200 | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
|
ISO | | | | |
| | Less light-sensitive

Low noise
Higher quality | | More light-sensitive
Greater noise
Lower quality
| |

| Shutter speed is the length of time that the camera sensor is exposed to light. This affects the brightness of the image and will also control motion. Images will appear either frozen in time or show blurring motion, depending on how long the sensor was exposed. The speed is measured in fractions of a second.
1/1000s 1/500s 1/125s 1/60s 1/30s 1/15s 1/8s 1/4s 1/2s 1s 2s
SHUTTER SPEED | | |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Darker
Freeze motion | | Brighter Blur motion |","cbCaihRu4ouxRJPf","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihRu4ouxRJPf","pdf",451629,"English","# Aperture
## Depth of field and light control
# ISO
## Brightness, noise, and image quality
# Shutter speed
## Exposure time and motion blur","[{"question":"What is the role of aperture in BX 900 slit lamp photography?","answer":"Aperture controls how much light enters the camera, similar to an iris.
