We now open up for Audience of Citizens. \nTyler DiGiovanni, of 11 Scalise Drive, expressed displeasure regarding the elimination of after-school programs, which his son greatly enjoys. He feels that it would be a major disservice to all of the students. As a result of last year’s budget cuts, his son was devastated to no longer have Spanish. He shared that the staff has been doing an excellent job supporting and working with his children, who have special needs. He mentioned that the elimination of stipend positions and aides would be detrimental to all students. He would like the level of attention, care, and attendance to remain the same. He inquired as to whether the $200,000 will be paid by every taxpayer and whether all town residents will be required to pay an additional $100,000 in taxes. He asked what it would take for their students to be successful. He mentioned having spoken with another parent who moved his children from another school to Columbia, with the intention of enabling his family to thrive. However, it seems unlikely to happen. He relayed that all parents want the best for their kids; however, eliminating $200,000 from the budget and reducing the positions and programs will only hurt them. He is willing to pay the additional funds to ensure that the kids get what they need. \nJeff Spacer shared that his granddaughter is a 7th grader at Porter school. He expressed displeasure regarding the elimination of after-school programs and clubs, as they are a big part of her life. He mentioned that they all have had access to programs while attending school and that it is unjust to provide access to programs and then simply eliminate them. He expressed that taxes will never decrease and that there is no documentation stating that they are required to move forward with it simply to maintain low taxes. He stressed that a school is the most important part of a town, stating that they all had access to sports while growing up, and no one ever worried about them being eradicated. He mentioned that most kids do not attend school merely for the academics. And if incentives are eliminated, kids will not want to attend school. His granddaughter was devastated when they eradicated Project O. At this point, they will have students in kindergarten and first grade who will not have these opportunities. He reiterated that he \n4/6/2026 BOE Minutes Page 2 of 7 \nis not in favor of eliminating these programs. \nBrandon Evans, of 173 route 87, stated that his is a dual-income family, which is necessary for survival in the current economy.
