called in the early years, wore red and white. At various times, St. Stephens fielded varsity programs in cross country, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, hockey, baseball and football. Tennis, rugby and bowling were also popular.\nAfter the institution became Bard College in 1934, the athletic teams were often referred to as the “Bardians” in the school newspaper. Varsity athletic offerings changed frequently through the middle of the 20th century based on student votes.\nBy the 1970s, Bard had varsity programs in cross country, soccer, tennis and basketball, with the teams frequently referred to as the ‘Blazers.’ Bard became a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in the early 1980s, and in 1984, the men’s cross country team won the North Atlantic Conference championship and competed in the NAIA National Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin.\nIn 1992, Bard became a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and competed in various Division III leagues in the following years, calling themselves the ‘Blazers.’ In 1995, a student-led proposition led to a student body vote, and Bard’s athletic teams were renamed the ‘Raptors’ - a nod to the many predatory birds in the region - and the athletic colors were changed to black and white.\nThe Raptors spent several years in the Hudson Valley Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (HVMAC and HVWAC) before joining the Skyline Conference in most sports in 2007. In 2011, Bard accepted an invitation to join the Liberty League and has been there ever since, for all sports except for Men’s Volleyball, which competes in the New England Volleyball Conference since the sport is not sponsored by the Liberty Leag","cbCaitNQuUJOqspq","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitNQuUJOqspq","docx",144640,6,20,"English","# History and Information on Bard Athletics\n# Staff Directory\n# Seasons and Schedules\n# Important Dates and Events\n# Core Values\n# Pre-Competition Requirements\n# Academic Eligibility and Policies\n# NCAA Eligibility, Compliance, and Transfers\n# Department Rules for Varsity Student-Athletes and Coaches\n## General Rules\n## Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Policy\n## Sports Wagering and Gambling\n## Hazing Policy\n## Fair Play and Fan Behavior\n## Disciplinary Process\n## Transgender Student-Athlete Information\n## Bias-Related Incidents During Athletic Competition\n## Athletic Training Policies / Procedures\n## Athletic Communication Information\n## Social Media Policy\n## Equipment, Gear, and Uniform Information\n## Employment in Athletics\n## Hosting Prospective Student-Athletes\n## Travel Expectations and Information\n## Hotels on Team Trips\n## Buses and Transportation\n## Attire\n## Facilities, Calendars and Reservations\n## Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) Information\n## Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)\n## Important On- and Off-Campus Resources","[{\"question\":\"When are fall, winter, and spring competition schedules released?\",\"answer\":\"Fall schedules are released around July, winter schedules around September, and spring schedules around December.\"},{\"question\":\"What governs academic and NCAA eligibility for student-athletes?\",\"answer\":\"The handbook details academic eligibility and policies, along with NCAA eligibility, compliance expectations, and guidance related to transfers.\"},{\"question\":\"What conduct and disciplinary topics are addressed for athletes?\",\"answer\":\"It covers general rules plus specific policies on alcohol, tobacco, drugs, sports wagering, hazing, fair play and fan behavior, and the disciplinary process.\"}]","Bard Athletics - Student-Athlete Handbook 2025-26 | DOCX"]
