Berkesch’s second grade this fall. Your child might have been in kindergarten or first grade with Brooklyn, if not I wanted to introduce her to you! \nYou see, Brooklyn has Rett Syndrome . She has a damaged gene which regulates a special protein in our bodies . This protein helps us to walk, talk, and move around…..it really helps us do lots of things! \nSo, Brooklyn cannot walk, or talk, or even use her hands very well….but she is full of love, life, and energy, plus she is smart! She understands everything going on around her….she just cannot respond in words . She uses her eyes to communicate . Your child will see her using an eye-gaze board to communicate as well as answer questions in the classroom . \nBrooklyn will also have a personal aide with her in the classroom at all times to assist her with classroom activities and procedures. She is SO excited to spend most of her day with some active, wonderful children! \nMy hope is that this will be a great experience for everyone . Brooklyn will learn from a wonderful teacher, fun students and friends! And, I hope, your child will learn about a different kind of “special” child. I’m sure they will have fun helping her learn and playing games! If your child is interested in hanging out with Brooklyn outside of the classroom, we would LOVE that too! \nIf you (or your child) have ANY questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at home. My cell number is \nxxx.xxx .xxxx or my email [is kelly@gp2c.org](is kelly@gp2c.org) If you or your child would like to learn more about Brooklyn or Rett Syndrome [we would love for you to check out our blog at www.specialmommyx2.com](we would love for you to check out our blog at www.specialmommyx2.com) \nThank you in advance for getting things off on the right foot and helping your child understand that Brooklyn is a fun little girl (just like your child) that just needs a little special help! \nSincerely, \nKelly Butler (Brooklyn’s Mom)","cbCaij549JGwtSvC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaij549JGwtSvC","pdf",35241,"English","# Back-to-school introduction\n## Family and student overview\n## Rett Syndrome and communication support\n## Classroom support and relationships\n## Contact information and closing","[{\"question\":\"Who is the letter from and what is its purpose?\",\"answer\":\"The letter is from Kelly to introduce Brooklyn to the teacher and families as she begins second grade in the fall.\"},{\"question\":\"What does the letter say about Brooklyn’s communication needs?\",\"answer\":\"Brooklyn cannot respond in words but communicates using her eyes, including an eye-gaze board, to answer questions in the classroom.\"},{\"question\":\"What support will Brooklyn receive at school?\",\"answer\":\"Brooklyn will have a personal aide in the classroom at all times to assist with classroom activities and procedures.\"}]","Back-to-school letter example - New student introduction | PDF",1789565360]
