This ensures proper records are kept for use in UBC Thunderbirds, Canada West and Cascade Collegiate Conference results, and by local and national media. Game Statisticians work on a computer program to document each play that occurs in a particular game. Primary duties performed by the Game Statistician are very important as game statistics, compiled over the course of a season, are used to help determine player and coaching awards, as well as team, school, individual and national records.  \nSpecific duties could include:  \n• Record game statistics accurately and in a timely fashion  \n• Communicate with home and away coaches throughout game where necessary  \n• Liaise with minor officials, referees and game supervisors  \n• Correct errors in stats where they occur  \n• Deliver accurate statistics to league following each match  \n• Assist the Coordinator, Sports Information in compiling career and historical stats  \n• Provide feedback on possible efficiencies in statistics-collecting process, training and workflow  \n• Perform other duties as required  \nFor the 2026-27 season there is a particular need for applicants with strong rules knowledge and/or experience as a statistician or scorekeeper for soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball.  \nSupervision Received  \nStudents will be supervised directly by the Coordinator, Sports Information; the same person to whom they will report. Students work under a set of policies and procedures as mandated by the Coordinator, Sports Information but are expected to defer to their direct supervisor when any judgment or decisionmaking outside these parameters is required.  \nLevel of Complexity  \nDuties and tasks are of a moderate complexity level but require attention to detail and accuracy. Comfort with typical computer programs will be required, with training provided on specific stats programs. The student has regular interactions with those who assign work to ensure optimal challenge and professional growth are being achieved.  \nQualifications  \nThe applicant must be a current or returning UBC Student in any level of degree or program. Ideal candidates for the position should be interested in varsity sports, have a passion for teamwork, be able to perform well in an intense environment and be able to execute multi-faceted tasks with a high degree of accuracy. The student will be a great fit if they are self-initiated problem solvers, outgoing, able to work under stress and time constraints and have a sports-minded background.
