Exercises no direct supervision over staff. May exercise technical and functional direction over and provides training to lower-level staff. \nCLASS CHARACTERISTICS \nAssistant Surveyor: This is the entry-level classification in the Land Surveyor series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine land surveying activities, while learning City policies and procedures. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Associate-level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. \nAssociate Land Surveyor: This is the journey-level classification in the Land Surveyor series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Assistant-level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. \nPositions in the Assistant Surveyor/Associate Land Surveyor class series are flexibly staffed; positions atthe Associate Land Surveyor level are normally filled by advancement from the Assistant Surveyor level; progression to the Associate Land Surveyor level is dependent on (i) management affirmation that the position is performing the full range of duties assigned to the classification; (ii) satisfactory work performance; (iii) the incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the classification including any licenses and certifications; and (iv) management approval for progression to the Associate Civil Engineer level. \nEXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Illustrative Only) \nManagement reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job. \nPositions at the Assistant Surveyor level may perform some of these duties and responsibilities in a learning capacity. \n􀂾 Performs calculations and determinations of boundary lines and right-of-way boundaries, relative to compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and accepted professional survey practices; computes data to be shown on maps. \n􀂾 Researches maps, deeds, files, and plans to obtain information; analyzes survey data and correlates with official records; prepares legal descriptions for real property and right-of-way and easements for review and approval. \n􀂾 Performs construction surveys; reviews, analyzes, and interprets engineering improvement plans in anticipation of setting line and grade stakes; works with professional survey staff and project engineers to assess surveying needs,","cbCaisWnjbuoIgKq","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisWnjbuoIgKq","pdf",185733,"English","# Definition\n# Supervision Received and Exercised\n# Class Characteristics\n## Assistant Surveyor\n## Associate Land Surveyor\n# Flexibly Staffed Positions and Progression\n# Examples of Typical Job Functions","[{\"question\":\"What are the main responsibilities of the Assistant Surveyor/Associate Land Surveyor?\",\"answer\":\"They review, approve, and process maps and records for compliance, coordinate and conduct field surveys, research record documents and property rights, and provide technical assistance and recommendations to city staff and management.\"},{\"question\":\"How do Assistant Surveyor and Associate Land Surveyor roles differ in supervision?\",\"answer\":\"Assistant Surveyors work under close supervision while learning routine activities, whereas Associate Land Surveyors operate independently with only occasional instruction for new or unusual situations.\"},{\"question\":\"What kinds of typical job functions do these positions perform?\",\"answer\":\"They perform boundary and right-of-way calculations, research deeds and plans to prepare legal descriptions, support construction surveys and interpret engineering plans, monitor survey crews, maintain survey records, and prepare reports and analyses.\"}]","Assistant Surveyor/Associate Land Surveyor - Job Description | PDF",1789335472]
