This process helps to identify thoughts, feelings, physical reactions, actions and consequences which lead to, or caused, the DFSV to occur. It is not assumed that this violent event is the only one to have occurred and in the next section the scope of inquiry is broadened to explore other episodes of DFSV, if these exist (it is highly likely there will have been other instances) . The information from this section and the next, is very useful for identifying patterns of behaviour leading to DFSV, and risk factors for future DFSV. These risks are incorporated into the treatment plan for the person, and decisions are made about how best to address these in rehabilitation (i.e., individual counselling/group program) . \nIntroduce the person to the DFSV map diagram on the next page and explain to them the process of mapping the violent event as follows: \nWhat we are going to do now is use this circle (refer to map) to ‘map’ what happened when you used DFSV with your partner. The process that we will follow is one where we will look at things in a certain order so that we get as accurate a picture as possible. The order we will do this in is: \n• Identifying what the key events were that happened before, during and after the incident (children, friends, other family members) \n• Identifying who was present \n• Identifying what you were thinking at each key event \n• Identifying what you were feeling at each key event and how strongly you felt this \n• Identifying your bodily reactions throughout the event and how strong these were. \nAfter you have answered any questions, the person will proceed to map the incident. After the map is completed, gather information about the impact of the DFSV on the victim and any witnesses, such as children. Remember to ask open and probing questions to avoid the tendency for men to minimise their DFSV. Ask about what physical, emotional, psychological and material eNects the DFSV has had on the victim and any children. Note any justifications, minimisations and rationalisations the person uses, as these are possibly aspects of his attitudes and beliefs about the acceptability of DFSV which can be addressed in programs. After the interview, you will look back across the map and the information gathered in the next section, and identify pathways to DFSV and patterns and risk factors which are then incorporated into the intervention plan. \nGuidelines for how to map a DFSV incident \nThe following structure is a useful guide for how to map the incidents of DFSV that brought the participant to the program. \nStep 1: \nAsk,“What do you hope to get out of making a map of the situation that has you sitting here today? What do you think are the sorts of things this might tell us?” \nStep 2: \nTell the participant that the idea is to identify a number of issues as we walk through the map, of their incidents of DFSV: \n• The thinking that supports DFSV \n• The feelings \n• The behaviours Step 3: \n[hma.co.nz](hma.co.nz | 2024)[ | 2024](hma.co.nz | 2024) 2 \nHave the participant think back to the time when they last engaged in DFSV. What was going onin their life at that stage and what background problems were they experiencing in their life atthe time? Think about where they were in the 12 – 24 hours before their use of DFSV. Who was there? What were you doing? How would you describe the way life was treating you then? \nStep 4: \nNow, work in a step-by-step way around what they and others did in the situation. Try not to get side-tracked into other issues at this stage. It is important not to leave out anything that would be helpful in making sense of what happened. It is often useful to work with a behavioural map initially and then overlay this with thinking and ","cbCaikRsC76mSOCd","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikRsC76mSOCd","pdf",1497675,28,"English","# Assessing DFSV Intervention\n## DFSV event mapping purpose and flow\n## Guidelines for mapping a DFSV incident\n## Three-houses metaphor for past, present and future\n## Participant prompts and discussion questions","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of mapping the DFSV incident in this assessment?\",\"answer\":\"The mapping process gathers information about thoughts, feelings, physical reactions, actions and consequences to understand what led to the DFSV and to identify patterns and risk factors for future DFSV.\"},{\"question\":\"What key elements must be identified before, during and after the incident?\",\"answer\":\"Participants identify key events in order, who was present, what they were thinking and feeling at each key event (including intensity), and their bodily reactions during the event.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the handout address minimisation of DFSV during the interview?\",\"answer\":\"It advises using open and probing questions to reduce the tendency for men to minimise DFSV and to ask about physical, emotional, psychological and material effects on the victim and any children.\"}]","Assessing for Domestic, Family and Sexualised Violence Intervention - Assessment Handout | PDF",1789230114,10]
