STUDENT EMPLOYMENT DEFINED \nEmory & Henry College believes that excellence results when everyone actively participates in the educational process. In light of this belief, the student employment opportunity provides a natural partnership to provide “educational experiences that lead to lives of service, productive careers, and global citizenship.” Additionally, Emory & Henry College is committed to providing opportunities for students who need financial assistance to pay tuition. \nBecause of our commitment to making student employment the best possible learning experience the College has outlined guidelines specific to students and to supervisors that will help ensure students receive the optimal work experience. \nII. GENERAL GUIDELINES \n􀁸 The primary goal of the Student Employment/Work Study program of the college is to use college funds to support the educational endeavors of students who need these jobs in order to attend Emory & Henry College. \n􀁸 All Student Employment/Work Study jobs on campus will be treated like any Employment situation; requiring a position description , supervisory oversight, and proper record keeping of time worked. \n􀁸 All students, with the exception of RA’s are available for student employment. \nRA’s may only hold an additional student employment position , if they have been granted a federal work study award. \n􀁸 While you may hire almost any student, the cost for student employees who are awarded federal financial aid will be subsidized $3.75/hr by the college. Meaning that if the student earns $7 .25/hr the cost to the department will be $3 .50/hr. \n􀁸 The Financial Aid Office will provide you with a list of students granted federal work study. \n􀁸 Students employed in the same position for more than one year, and who have \nbeen given increased responsibility are eligible to receive more than minimum wage. The graduated pay scale below is to be utilized at the discretion of the supervisor. All student employees must be paid at least minimum wage to start. \nStudents must complete all required paper work before they may begin working. An email will be sent to the student and the supervisor once this has occurred. \nStudent Employee Discipline Structure-Student employees are real employees that maybe disciplined and terminated if warranted. If you find yourself having to discipline your student employees, the HR department highly recommends that you follow the structure below and partner with the HR Department if any questions arise. If you find yourself at the dismissal phase then please partner with the HR Department so that support can be provided where needed. \n1. Verbal Warning-A verbal warning occurs when a supervisor verbally counsels an employee about an issue of concern. A written record (email) of the discussion, noting the date, event and recommended action, is placed in the employee's personnel file for future reference. (disciplinary email template available through HR) \n2. Written Warning-A written warning is used for behavior or performance that a supervisor considers serious or when a verbal warning has not helped change unacceptable behavior or performance. (disciplinary letter template available through HR) \n3. Employee Dismissed – If you find yourself at this stage, please contact HR. \nTypes of Offences-No list of rules can include all instances of conduct that can result in discipline, and the list of examples below is not exhaustive. Furthermore, sound judgment and common sense should prevail when working through the disciplinary process. \nExamples of Minor Offences \n􀁸 Creating conflict with co-workers, supervisors, visitors or volunteers. \n􀁸 Failing to follow practices as needed for the specific job assignment. \n􀁸 Contributing to unsafe conditions \n􀁸 Loitering or loafing while on duty. \n􀁸 Abusing lunch and break periods \nExamples of Severe Offences \n􀁸 Being absent for three or more d","cbCailZnXhCG7u38","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailZnXhCG7u38","pdf",1313260,6,"English","# Student Employment Defined\n## General Guidelines\n# Step-by-Step Student Instructions and Guidelines\n## Step 1: Receive Notification and Review Budget\n## Step 2: Post Open Opportunities\n## Step 3: Hire a Student(s)\n### Student Responsibilities Upon Being Issued Contract","[{\"question\":\"What is the primary goal of Emory \\u0026 Henry College’s Student Employment/Work Study program?\",\"answer\":\"The primary goal is to use college funds to support the educational endeavors of students who need these jobs to attend Emory \\u0026 Henry College.\"},{\"question\":\"What responsibilities do supervisors have regarding student employee discipline?\",\"answer\":\"Student employees are real employees and may be disciplined or terminated.
