Teori Saussure menjelaskan bahwa tanda memiliki unsur yang saling berhubungan yaitu penanda (signifier), petanda (signified) . Proses ini menghubungkan antara lirik lagu dengan dunia eksternal yang sesungguhnya. Hasil dari penelitian ini dari lirik lagu “Give Me Five” karya JKT48 memiliki makna yang saling berkaitan mengandung pesan bahwa perpisahan bukanlah akhir dari segalanya. Makna perpisahan yang terkandung dalam lirik lagu “Give Me Five” karya JKT48 sangat kuat, karena seseorang tidak akan dapat menghindari kata perpisahan, selain itu terdapat motivasi untuk menggapai mimpi lain ketika perpisahan itu terjadi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu analisis dengan menggunakan teori semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure. Model teori dari Saussure lebih memfokuskan perhatian langsung kepada tanda itu sendiri.
