Upon landing, Jesus saw a large crowd and, moved with compassion, healed their sick. As evening approached, his disciples urged him to send the crowds away to buy food in the villages. However, Jesus instructed them to feed the people themselves. The disciples revealed they only had five loaves and two fish. Jesus then commanded them to gather the people and to have them sit down. He took the five loaves and two fish, looked up to heaven, gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to distribute. Astonishingly, everyone ate and was satisfied, and the disciples collected twelve basketfuls of broken pieces left over.
