It explains what a CT scan is and how it uses multiple X-ray images to create cross-sectional views of bones and soft tissues. The document lists exam types by body region and estimated duration, notes key scheduling contacts, and gives specific prep steps, including liquid diet and oral contrast timing, plus consent and medication instructions for guided needle biopsy. It also covers what patients may experience during the exam and recommended actions afterward, such as hydration after contrast.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":35,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/your-ct-exam/402688/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/your-ct-exam/402688.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Ben ","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-29","2026-09-27",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":34},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"What is a CT scan and how does it work?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"A CT (computed tomography/CAT) scan is a non-invasive imaging exam that combines many X-ray images from different angles to create cross-section views of bones and soft tissues inside the body.","Answer",{"name":115,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":116},"How should a patient prepare for CT abdomen and CT pelvis?",{"text":117,"@type":113},"For CT abdomen and CT pelvis ONLY, follow a liquid diet for at least four hours before oral preparation, and take the oral contrast agent 1.5–2 hours before the exam. Imaging nurse will call prior to procedure with further instructions regarding medications and the amount of time the procedure will take. \nDuring this exam, you may: \n• Be asked to drink an oral contrast material. \n• Need to have an IV inserted into your vein for contrast injection. \n• Feel a light warming sensation as the IV contrast agent is administered during the examination. \n• Place your arms over your head for the duration of the exam. \n• You will be asked to “hold your breath” several times.
