They explore the use of language for persuasive effect and the structure and presentation of argument. They consider different types of persuasive language, including written, spoken, and visual, and combinations of these, and how language is used to position the reader. \nStudents consider the contention of texts; the development of the argument including logic and reasoning, tone and bias; and the intended audience. Students consider how authors craft texts to support and extend the impact of an argument. \nIn considering the presentation of arguments in oral form, students also learn about the conventions of oral communication for persuasive purposes. Students consider the persuasive impact of tone, diction and audience engagement in the presentation of a viewpoint. They practise their listening and speaking skills through discussion and debate, developing their own arguments and critiquing the arguments of others. \nSuitable texts may be drawn from a variety of sources and may be written, spoken or multimodal. Appropriate texts could include editorials, letters to the editor, opinion and comment pi","cbCainHQYvPEMFtl","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCainHQYvPEMFtl","pdf",230994,"English","# Lesson and homework calendar (Term 2)\n## Week-by-week schedule of lessons, media focus, SACs, and due dates","[{\"question\":\"What is the focus of VCE English Unit 1 Area of Study 2 in Term 2?\",\"answer\":\"Students focus on analysing and presenting argument, including how language constructs persuasive effect and positions an audience.\"},{\"question\":\"What kinds of persuasive texts and language are studied?\",\"answer\":\"Students read and examine a range of written, spoken, and visual texts and explore how tone, diction, and audience engagement create persuasive impact.\"},{\"question\":\"What SAC and assessment tasks are scheduled during the term?\",\"answer\":\"The calendar includes SACs such as persuasive oral presentations, a persuasive writing assessment task on Gattaca, a SAC persuasive writing task on Animal Farm, and an analysing and presenting argument essay.\"}]","YEAR 11 TERM 2 VCE ENGLISH Unit 1 - Area of Study 2 - Calendar of Lessons, Homework and SACs | PDF"]
