Highlight any new terminology, or terminology that may be different from GCSE. \nReview of Heart Structure and Function \n􀁸 Deoxygenated – blood depleted of oxygen \n􀁸 Oxygenated – blood saturated with oxygen. \n􀁸 The heart acts as a ‘dual action pump’ – two separate pumps that work simultaneously to pump blood to two different destinations – right side pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs, left side pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. \n􀁸 Heart is located in the thoracic cavity, underneath the ribs of the chest. \n􀁸 Heart wall separating the 2 pumps is called the Septum. \n􀁸 4 chambers of the heart – upper 2 are atria, lower 2 are ventricles. \nHeart Valves \n􀁸 Four one way valves to control the forward direction of blood flow through the heart and to prevent backflow of blood in the heart chambers. \n􀁸 2 atrioventricular (AV) valves separate the atria and ventricles. \n- Right AV valve is the Tricuspid valve. \n- Left AV valve is the Bicuspid valve. \n􀁸 The remaining valves are called semilunar (SL) valves. \n- Right SL valve is the pulmonary valve and exits into the pulmonary artery. \n- Left SL valve is the aortic valve and exits the left ventricle into the aorta. \nMajor Blood Vessels \n􀁸 Superior/inferior venae cavae – deoxygenated blood from body to right atrium \n􀁸 Pulmonary artery – deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs \n􀁸 Pulmonary veins (x4)– oxygenated blood from lungs to left atrium \n􀁸 Aorta – oxygenated blood from left ventricle to whole body \n􀁸 Heart wall = cardiac muscle and requires a constant blood supply. \n􀁸 Coronary arteries – supply oxygenated blood \n- Left and right branches from the aorta encircle and supply the heart muscle with oxygen and glucose \n􀁸 Coronary veins – remove deoxygenated blood \n- Alongside the coronary arteries, drain deoxygenated blood directly back into the right atrium via the coronary sinus. \nTASK:. Using the diagram, explain the flow of blood through the heart from the body, to the lungs and back through the heart. Ensure you identify the 4 major blood vessels, the 4 main chambers and the 4 valves the blood passes through. \nHeart Rate \nTASK: Use your GCSE PE knowledge or research the following key terms: \nDefinition: \nAverage resting heart rate: \nMaximal heart rate: \nStroke Volume \nDefinition: \nAverage resting stroke volume: \nCardiac Output \nDefinition: \nAverage resting Cardiac Output: \nTASK: Explain the relationship between heart rate, stroke volume and cardiac output. \nHealth and Fitness \nTASK: Use your GCSE PE knowledge or research the following key terms \nDefinitions \nHealth: \nFitness: \nTASK: Research and explain the following key terms: \n\n| Heart Disease: |\n| --- |\n| Angina: |\n| High Blood Pressure: |\n| Cholesterol: |\n| Stroke: |\n\nThe Vascular System \nWhat is it? \n• Blood and blood vessels which transport and direct oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from the lungs, heart and tissues. \nCardiac Output is distributed to the body’s organs and tissues according to their need/demand of oxygen-Therefore blood carries the oxygen and carbon dioxide while blood vessels direct and deliver the flow of blood. \nCirculatory Networks \nThe heart consists of 2 separate pumps, which pump blood to 2 locations via 2 circulatory networks. \n• Pulmonary Circulation – deoxygenated blood from Right ventricle of heart to the lungs and oxygenated blood back to the Left atrium \n• Systemic Circulation – oxygenated blood from Left ventricle to the body tissues and deoxygenated blood back to the Right atrium. \n• \nTransport of Blood Gases \nIntroduction \n􀁸 In order for our muscles to contract they need a supply of oxygen. \n􀁸 Our lungs deliver oxygen to the blood and the blood transports the oxygen around the blood vessels. \n􀁸 The blood vessels and the blood form the blood transport system. \n􀁸 As well as transporting ","cbCaibKUvMAOREZ4","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibKUvMAOREZ4","pdf",1147843,12,"English","# Year 11 Summer Task for Anatomy and Physiology\n## The Cardiovascular System\n### Review of Heart Structure and Function\n### Heart Valves\n### Major Blood Vessels\n### Heart Rate\n### Stroke Volume and Cardiac Output\n### Health and Fitness\n### The Vascular System\n### Circulatory Networks\n### Transport of Blood Gases\n## Blood Vessels","[{\"question\":\"What is the role of the septum and the four heart chambers?\",\"answer\":\"The septum separates the two pumps.
