During each review period, teachers are asked to assess student progress, their Attitude to Learning (ATL – see website for information) and indicate any areas for concern. Below is a guide which should explain your child’s Progress Review report.  \nYour child’s percentage attendance to date for this academic year is shown on the Review. At Lord Williams’s School our attendance target for all students is 96% or above. Government legislation means that schools are no longer able to authorise any holiday during term time, except in exceptional circumstances.  \nThe grading for GCSE subjects has changed from a letters system (A*-G) to a numbers system of 9-1 (9 being the highest, 1 the lowest) . Attainment numbers are now issued for the majority of subjects, although some subjects will have an alternative grading:  \n􀁸 Child Development and IT will show grades from ‘Pass’ to ‘Distinction *’  \nThese grades are based on the student’s prior attainments and data supplied by the Fischer Family Trust  \nThese are the grade the student should achieve at the end of Year 11 if they work well (based on previous performance at Key Stage 2) . Nationally, 50% of students achieve the median and above  \nWhat the student could achieve at the end of Year 11 if they work very well (based on previous performance at Key Stage 2) . Nationally, 25% of students achieve the upper quartile and above  \nThis has been set following a discussion with the subject teacher  \nThis is the grade that we expect the students to get at the end of the GCSE course, based on their current level of work. This can go up or down and is likely to be more accurate the closer they get to the end of the course.  \n‘Fine grading’ will be collected from the 3rd Year 10 Review onwards.  \nAn explanation of fine-grading is as follows:  \na = very secure and could possible achieve the grade above the estimated grade b = should achieve estimated grade  \nc = at risk of achieving a grade below the estimated grade  \nNon-GCSE subjects will show a fine grade as follows:  \n1 = very secure and could possible achieve the grade above the estimated grade  \n2 = should achieve estimated grade  \n3 = at risk of achieving a grade below the estimated grade  \nAdditional/Vocational Courses  \nEntry Level Certificates in English and Mathematics: These courses are for students who are working at a level below that which is required for a Grade 1 at GCSE. Entry level is divided into three sub-levels (entry 1, entry 2 and entry 3) to allow for small steps of achievement. These sub-levels are broadly comparable with National Curriculum levels 1, 2 and 3.  \nLand & Environment: Pass or fail  \nConstruction: Students studying Construction will only be given an ATL (Attitude to Learning) grade  \nCOPE (Certificate of Personal Effectiveness): Level 1 PSD (Personal & Social Development): Level 1  \nConcerns  \nRewards and Sanctions  \nIf there are any specific concerns raised by teachers, they will appear on the Review.
