XNX Gas Detector Calibration (ØÖØÙ Guide)
Complete Practical Guide for Accurate and Safe Calibration
×. Overview of the XNX Gas Detector
The HoneywellXNX Universal Gas Transmitter is a widely used industrial gas detectionsystem designed to work with multiple sensor technologies (electrochemical, infrared, catalytic bead, etc.). It is commonly deployed in oil & gas, chemical plants, wastewaterfacilities, and manufacturing environments.
Calibration is a critical maintenance task to ensure the detector:
• Measures gas concentration accurately
• Triggers alarms at correct thresholds
• Complies with safety and regulatory standards
Ø. Why Calibration Matters
Over time, gas sensors can drift due to:
• Environmental exposure (temperature, humidity, contaminants)
• Sensor aging
• Mechanical or electrical variations
Without proper calibration, the system may:
• Fail to detect dangerous gas levels
• Trigger false alarms
• Violate safety compliance requirements
Regular calibration ensures reliability, worker safety, and regulatory compliance.
Ù. Types of Calibration
Ù.× Zero Calibration (Zero Gas)
• Adjusts the baseline reading to Ö ppm (or clean air equivalent)
• Uses clean air or certified zero gas
Ù.Ø Span Calibration (Span Gas)
• Adjusts the detector to a known concentration of target gas
• Ensures measurement accuracy across operating range
Both steps are required for a complete calibration cycle.
Ú. Preparation Before Calibration
Before starting, ensure the following:
Equipment Required
• Certified zero gas cylinder
• Certified span gas cylinder (correct concentration)
• Calibration cap or flow adapter
• Regulator with proper flow rate (typically Ö.Û L/min)
• Tubing compatible with the gas type
Safety Checks
• Perform calibration in a safe, controlled environment
• Verify gas concentration and expiration date
• Ensure proper ventilation
• Avoid calibration in oxygen-enriched environments (as warned in manuals)
Û. Step-by-Step Calibration Procedure (ØÖØÙ StandardPractice)
Step ×: Access Calibration Menu
Power on the device
Use the interface (LCD + keypad or HART interface)Navigate to:
Menu → Configure → Calibrate
Step Ø: Perform Zero Calibration
Select Zero Calibration
Apply zero gas (or clean air if applicable)Allow readings to stabilize
Confirm calibration when prompted
✅ Expected result: Reading stabilizes at or near Ö
Step Ù: Perform Span Calibration
Select Span Calibration
Apply span gas with known concentrationWait for stable reading
Enter gas concentration value (if required)Confirm calibration
✅ Expected result: Reading matches certified gas concentration
