The majority of the texts appear here in English for the first time. \nWhat follows is an independent scholarly and documentary undertaking, with the purpose of facilitating closer engagement with the textual record of the Bahá’í Faith by readers working across Arabic, Persian, Ottoman Turkish, and English. It is not prepared under the direction of Bahá’í institutions and does not constitute an official edition of the texts. The relevant Bahá’í institutions are the final authority with respect to authenticated texts and authorized translations. Accordingly, this series is envisioned as a provisional research aid and reference tool—a scouting expedition to uncharted domains, that defers to finalized texts and translations wherever these are available. \nAltogether, the series comprises over 29,0000 authored works and reported utterances spanning the years 1843 to 1921. Despite its length—over 10,000,000 words without double-counting the translations—it is not a comprehensive corpus. Rather, it represents the material presently known to the compiler to be publicly obtainable in the original and/or in translation. It is estimated to represent somewhat more than half of the known total, the remainder being held in the International Baha’i Archives in Haifa, Israel. \nThe series proceeds on a principle of maximal inclusion within the constraints of public accessibility. It therefore brings together texts of unequal status and differing degrees of reliability. Some items are authenticated; others are not. Some survive in stable typed or printed form; others are preserved through imperfect transcription, excerpted publication, or secondhand report. The reader should therefore approach the corpus with appropriate source-critical caution. Inclusion in the series should not be taken to imply authenticity, completeness, or accuracy. \nWhere authorized English translations issued by the Bahá’í World Centre are available in full, they are rendered in blue text and can be regarded as possessing a distinct status from other translations in the series. Such translations embody a high degree of fidelity, terminological consistency, and editorial care. Readers new to the Bahá’í writings are well advised to begin with the World Centre’s own published collection of authorized translations, among them the one-volume thematic anthology Bahá’í Sacred Writings, available at [bahai.org/library. In](bahai.org/library. In) the present series, newly published authorized translations will be incorporated as they become available.
